Electronics maker Samsung revealed that their recently-launched Galaxy SIII smartphone has become the company’s most successful mobile handset to date. The device managed to sell over 20-million units in its first 100 days of availability.
While its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy SII, also managed to break the 20-million mark in February of this year (10 months after launch), the Galaxy SIII sold at a rate of three times faster.
Being the third generation in the Galaxy series, the SIII sold six times faster than the original Samsung Galaxy.
Samsung has also revealed statistics and sales figures for each of their regions, which is rather unprecedented for the electronics giant. It revealed that around six million units of the SIII have been sold in Europe, while Asia sold just over 4.5-million.
The US is slightly behind the sales figures for Asia with four million units, while Samsung’s native homeland Korea fared the worst in terms of units sold to customer, with a sales figure of 2.5-million.
How quickly are the units selling? Well, by Samsung’s estimates the company is selling about 200 000 units a day. But that figure is expected to drop slightly as they have a number of new units that are due to be released soon, such as the Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Note 2, while Apple is wildly expected to announce the iPhone 5 next week.
