Samsung: LED TV Sales To Grow At Least Five Fold In 2010

Published Sep 16, 2009
LED TVs establish new category that elevates consumer experience and market performance.

Samsung Electronics, the global leader in consumer electronics, announced that it is on its way to leading the global TV market for the fourth year in a row.

Samsung’s successful performance is being driven by the success of its full line up of revolutionary LED TVs, which were launched earlier in 2009.

Sales have been so successful that Samsung predicts a five time increase in LED HDTV sales in 2010, with at least 10 million units sold.

“Samsung plans to vastly outperform the LED TV market next year with a predicted five time increase in sales,” said Ram Modak, General Manager, AV division, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

“Reuters has reported that the overall LED TV market is expected to be about 4.3 million units in 2009 with Samsung being at the top of the industry. Right now, LEDs are the leading force,” Modak added.

The success of Samsung’s LED TVs has prompted global market research agency DisplaySearch to update its LED TV market forecast from the originally estimated 2.01 million units to 3.67 million units.

The firm also ranked Samsung Electronics at the top in the global LCD TV market for the first half of 2009 with unit based share of 18.8 percent and value based share of 22.9.

“Late June, only 100 days after its release, Samsung LED TV hit half a million units in sales, and its continued robust performance led the number to break one million mark in September 2nd,” added Modak.

“At the heart of Samsung Electronics LED TVs success is not only our relentless pursuit of innovation but also our ability to imbue the product with what consumers really want an experience that is engaging and emotionally satisfying. It is this philosophy of digital humanism that sets us apart and will continue to fuel our growth, innovation and leadership”.

Samsung’s LED TV line up consists of the LED 6000, 7000 and 8000 Series, which feature three key differentiating elements: ultra high picture quality, ultra slimness and unmatched eco friendliness.

All three series boast Samsung’s acclaimed Motion Plus™ frame interpolation technology, ensuring crisp, easy viewing of sports, video games and movies.

The big draw for consumers to LED equipped HDTVs is that the sets are significantly thinner than CCFL backlit LCD TVs common today and consume less power.

The benefit extends further than looks and the green factor though with LED sets having better color, contrast and picture quality.

Due to the technological and design innovations, Samsung’s LED TV line up is sweeping up numerous prestigious product, design and consumer awards such as CES Innovation Award, IDEA 2009 and EISA Award.

It became the first TV to acquire the SWAN logo, most renowned environmental mark in Sweden in Northern Europe, one of the most environmentally advanced nations in the world.
