First Nawras Customers Get New iPhone 5 with Nano SIM and LTE Capabilities

Published Sep 26, 2012

Great excitement was in the air on Monday as the first Nawras customers in Oman got their hands on the new iPhone 5 with its Nano SIM card and LTE capabilities. After leading the charge to pre-register their interest in the phone, the delighted customers got the call they had been eagerly awaiting and headed to the Nawras store at Muscat Grand Mall to pick up their new phone. Nawras Chief Executive Officer, Ross Cormack, shared the celebration by handing over the latest Apple devices to the overjoyed recipients.

Cormack said, “This is an exciting day for our customers and it shows Nawras as a thought leader, providing the means for customers to use the latest technology to communicate in any way they choose to. We are pleased to bring in this hugely popular phone and will continue to bring in the latest handsets from Apple, Samsung, BlackBerry and other leading smartphone manufacturers. This new approach goes hand in hand with our network turbocharging programme which is ushering in a new era of customer experience to Oman.”

He added, “I am also thrilled to say that we got the Nano SIMs in record time too, so our customers can start enjoying their new phone right away.”

The first assignment of iPhone 5 devices has been allocated to those customers who pre-registered on the Nawras website. Additional stock will arrive shortly and be distributed in line with the pre-registration order. The latest Apple iPhone is expected to fly off the shelves in Oman as it has done around the world so customers are encouraged to check the company’s updates online, via Twitter @nawras_oman or facebook.com/nawras.

Along with the iPhone 5, Nawras introduced the new Nano SIM card which, at a fraction of the size of previous SIMs, fits the new Apple device. Nano SIM cards will soon be available at all Nawras stores nationwide, for the same low price as a standard SIM. Once regular stocks are available, customers will be able to replace their existing SIM for only two Omani Rials. Measuring just 12.3 by 8.8 millimetres, the Nano is about 30 per cent smaller than a Micro SIM and about 15% thinner, with a capacity to save up to 1000 contact numbers.

Amongst the many exciting attributes of the iPhone 5, is its LTE capability and Nawras will soon be launching this technology. As part of its current turbocharging programme, Nawras is rolling out a 4G LTE network ready for launch before the end of the year. This latest technology will be supporting an incredible customer experience, not least in terms of speed and capabilities.

For the next three months, all Nawras customers buying an iPhone 5 for 499.9 Omani Rials will get 2GB of free data each month for the following six months together with a free Nano SIM card.

Nawras, Oman’s customer friendly communications provider, is a member of the Qtel Group and dedicated to providing award winning services for customers across the Sultanate.
