RSA Hosts First Security Summit in the UAE

Published Oct 4, 2012

RSA, The Security Division of EMC, today hosted its first RSA Summit in the United Arab Emirates, at the Address Downtown Hotel, Dubai. Over 100 delegates participated in the Summit, which was themed “Foundation of IT Trust”.

Building sustainable Trust in the digital world is a challenge facing most organizations across the region, and the RSA Summit served as a platform to bring the industry together to debate and discuss a range of important issues from the information security domain.

The event kicked off with a keynote speech delivered by Ahmed Abdella, RSA Regional Manager, Turkey, Emerging Africa & Middle East, who focused on giving delegates an insight into the current and future security trends that it will be essential for organizations in the region to build into their strategies. The keynote highlighted the major security challenges that face organizations today and the need for a change in approach and mindset to transform and become more effective at combating advanced threats. It also addressed the minimum required capabilities that organizations need to have in place to measure the risk in real time and respond to incidents and events as they unfold. Abdella stresses on RSA’s commitment to working closely with customers & partners as a community to share knowledge and leverage experience for everyone’s protection.

While challenges continue to exist, RSA urged customers to move to a proactive approach for information security. David Walter, General Manager for GRC EMEA at RSA, presented the technology keynote and highlighted how the majority of organizations discover security breaches long after they’ve occurred, emphasizing that a preventative and proactive strategy for dealing with cyber threats is crucial. This discussion addressed leveraging the concepts of governance, risk and compliance to provide comprehensive visibility into the enterprise infrastructure and business context of strategically critical systems, in order to more efficiently and effectively prioritize the investigation and remediation work being managed by today’s Security Operations Centers.

As part of the RSA Summit, a series of nine break-out sessions within three class tracks covered various topics, including: Elements for Ensuring Governance, Risk and Compliance Success; The First Line of Defence Against Online Threats; Transforming Security; An Adaptive Approach to Identity & Access Management; Cyber Warfare: Are You Equipped to Deal With Digital Weapons?; Securing the Hyperextended Enterprise; and Data Governance: Policy to Remediation.

The RSA Summit’s aim was to not only engage and unite security professionals from the IT industry but to give them the opportunity to learn about current security trends and the latest technologies as well as RSA’s industry-leading strategic vision.
