Abu Dhabi’s Emergence As Digital Society On Spotlight At Middle East’s Premier ICT Business Gateway

Published Oct 10, 2012

Since 1981, the annual Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) held in Dubai has served as the undisputed business gateway to the thriving Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry of the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MEASA) Region. It has been a moving force for the Middle East’s ICT market, acting as a valuable trading and networking hub for the regional and global technology sector.

For this year’s edition, the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), the government entity in charge of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s ICT agenda, will extensively discuss Abu Dhabi’s rapid transformation into a genuinely digital, knowledge-based society.

At the same time, ADSIC will capitalize on GITEX to get acquainted with the latest services, developments and trends from across the globe that can help realize Abu Dhabi’s ambitious ICT visions. These will expose key ADSIC staff to the best practices in the regional and global markets. ADSIC’s participation at GITEX is intended to encourage other relevant entities from Abu Dhabi to get actively involved with the iconic ICT event as well.

ADSIC will hold a series of presentations to explain the core e-services it offers to government and private entities. Four initiatives will be extensively featured: Abudhabi.ae, the Abu Dhabi e-Government Portal; the 24-hour Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre (800 555); the Jobs Abu Dhabi job listing and hunting website; and the Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure (AD-SDI), a program that facilitates the sharing of geospatial data among government agencies and other stakeholders.

“GITEX has had a great influence in drawing businesses, consumers, investors and experts from around the world to explore the Middle East’s vast ICT potentials. ADSIC considers this event an important platform for showcasing Abu Dhabi’s ICT maturity and its exceptional use of technology to pursue its goal of becoming one of the world’s top governments. We are very eager to show the world how we are tapping ICT to optimize governance and public services via our participation in GITEX. We also look forward to being updated on the latest technological developments that can further advance Abu Dhabi’s e-transformation,” said H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansouri, Director General, Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre.

GITEX, the annual consumer computer and electronics trade show, will welcome over 138,000 ICT professionals from 144 countries and more than 3,500 ICT companies from 77 countries during its latest run from October 14 to 18, 2012 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. More than 80 per cent of the leading global ICT brands will be participating.

ADSIC will hold presentations and demonstrations at Stand S3-114 at the Sheikh Saeed Halls near the Government pavilion. More details on GITEX 2012 are available at http://www.gitex.com.

The Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC) was first created as a Committee in 2005 and later on established as a Centre in December 2008. Its mandate is to facilitate the modernization of government services via Information Technology and consequently position Abu Dhabi among the world’s most advanced governments. ADSIC considers major industry platforms such as GITEX as vital to disseminating Abu Dhabi’s ICT transformation and acquiring assets that can further develop local ICT Usage, Readiness and Environment.
