ManageEngine Releases Desktop Central With Mobile Device Management Capabilities at GITEX Technology Week 2012

Published Oct 16, 2012

ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, today at GITEX Technology Week 2012 announced the launch of its latest release of Desktop Central, its server and desktop management software, that it supports mobile application management. In addition to the expansion of its mobile device management capabilities, Desktop Central has also been enhanced with integrated chat and support for Apple iOS 6, Microsoft Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.

Employee mobility has become one of the key areas that enterprises focus on to maximize their productivity. In turn, use of mobile apps - both in-house and commercial - within the enterprise is soaring, making mobile application management a critical capability in IT departments. Likewise, the enduring popularity of the operating systems for Apple devices as well as Microsoft Windows devices and servers is making it imperative for IT organizations to support iOS 6 and Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.

"The worldwide smartphone and mobile market is expected to grow exponentially in the years to come," says Mathivanan Venkatachalam, director of product management at ManageEngine. "As more and more companies go mobile, we are committed to meeting the increasing demands placed on today's enterprises by continuously improving our mobile device management feature set. Mobile application management is simply the latest example of that commitment."

Mastering Mobile Apps, Windows 8 and Chat
Desktop Central adds mobile application management functionality via its Mobile Device Management (MDM) add-on module. Now, in addition to configuring and securing individual mobile devices and groups of devices, Desktop Central lets IT users perform mobile application management tasks, including

• create an application repository of both in-house and App Store apps
• distribute applications to individual devices and groups
• remove apps from individual devices or groups

ManageEngine also ensures IT departments can manage iOS 6 as well as Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 as soon as those Microsoft operating systems are released. To that end, Desktop Central extends full support to Microsoft Windows 8 and Server 2012, enabling users to perform patch management, software deployment, asset management, remote control, power management, configuration management, and USB device management. Meanwhile, iOS 6 devices will be covered by Desktop Central's MDM feature set, which includes profile, security, asset and app management.

Finally, Desktop Central now features integrated chat, enabling collaboration between users - especially between IT administrators and users who need to communicate during the course of troubleshooting desktop issues. The auditing capability in chat helps enterprises stay compliant with standard regulations by recording and securely archiving a copy of each chat session.

Pricing and Availability
Desktop Central 8 is available immediately. Prices start at $10 per computer annually for the Professional Edition. The MDM add-on module support is available on all the editions, and prices start at $15 per device annually. The Free Edition of Desktop Central manages up to 25 computers and two mobile devices. A free, fully functional trial version is available at http://ow.ly/7R4ke.
