Emirates Central Cooling Corporation (Empower), the largest district cooling service provider in the region, is participating in World Energy Forum 2012 as a lead sponsor. The forum opens tomorrow (Monday 22nd October 2012) at the Dubai World Trade Centre and will continue until 24th October, to be attended by more than 20 heads of state, over 40 ministers and several officials and government delegations.
Ahmed Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower said: “The UAE is carrying flag of environmental sustainability in the world. This is endorsed by it hosting this prestigious forum for the first time outside the UN headquarters in New York. The UAE has proved to be a world class venue for holding such events, thanks to its modern infrastructure, transport system and communications network.”
Bin Shafar emphasized: “It is a matter of pride that UAE is playing host to WEF 2012. This global event comes at a time when the entire world is looking seriously at climate change as a big threat. We are glad to support WEF 2012. As leaders in the district cooling industry, Empower seeks to benefit from the international exposure this event provides, as we continue to implement global practices in this domain. We are showcasing our success story in the district cooling industry in the UAE to global decision makers and experts.”
He added: “WEF is very relevant to Empower. We have big plans to boost the district cooling industry in the Middle East by accelerating the migration to this technology. A proper exposure at WEF will definitely help boost district cooling in the region.”
Bin Shafar said that Empower’s support to this world class forum is part of its relentless commitment to reserve the natural resources as governed by the directive of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to protect the environment.
He added that the company supports district cooling systems that are regarded the best environment friendly cooling solutions.
The vision of establishing Empower as a company in 2003 was to provide energy-efficient district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments to achieve economies of scale by using centralized plants instead of individual cooling units. This has lowered capital and operating costs, thus reduced air-conditioning set-up and energy costs per building.
Bin Shafar added: “We have been tremendously successful in disseminating district cooling technologies in the UAE which helped in saving environmental resources and supported the green building concept as well as the green economy elements in the country. We have plans to expand in other parts of the MENA region in the coming years.”
