Cisco announced that it plans to collaborate with Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), the UAE-based communications satellite operator, to deliver satellite services to government entities, emergency response and other industries such as oil and gas and construction where field work is required. Utilizing the Cisco TelePresence® VX Tactical (VX Tactical), high-definition video which is specifically designed for remote field locations, a first for the Middle East, the companies are ensuring that collaboration is truly possible from anywhere. This high-definition video collaboration system is part of the Cisco TelePresence portfolio, which offers a total solution approach including content sharing, recording, firewall traversal, and management capabilities.
Cisco and Yahsat are not novices when it comes to offering innovative technology solutions in the Middle East region and globally. Cisco TelePresence, which offers a video experience so intuitive, lifelike and natural that it feels as if people were in the same room even when they were miles apart, is a key example of this. What started out as a way to save travel costs and optimize employee time at large companies has evolved into a means of accelerating time to market, expanding access to experts and transforming how companies do business. Likewise, Yahsat designed and launched the region's first multi-purpose satellite system, based on extensive interaction with customers and research into their communication needs. Subsequently, Yahsat’s first-hand understanding of specific market requirements has enabled it to develop customized satellite solutions for the government as well as the commercial sector in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Central and South West Asia.
Highlights/Key Facts:
• Designed to be used in harsh environments, the VX Tactical’s high impact plastic shell minimizes impact while an aluminum interior frame provides structural strength. Its 17.5-inch screen is fully readable in sunlight, and the high-definition camera provides a quality image of the field user and environment.
• This rugged and lightweight mobile TelePresence product features Cisco's superior codec technology in a portable, briefcase-style form factor. The unit is based on a Cisco TelePresence System SX20 Quick Set codec (SX20) and supports H.323, and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) dual stream up to 6 Mbps. The SX20 codec supports embedded capability for multipoint support with Cisco TelePresence Multi-Site technology, enabling users to add three additional participants to a TelePresence call.
• The VX Tactical can be set up in a mobile TelePresence conference room scenario with an external microphone, camera, and monitor.
• Cisco and our partners provide a broad portfolio of smart, personalized services and support that can help organizations realize the full business value of their Cisco TelePresence investment by increasing business agility and network availability. This portfolio of services accelerates business innovation by harnessing the network as a powerful business platform.
