UAE-headquartered hospitality company, TI’ME Hotels Management is celebrating its latest business ‘win’, with the news that Thomas Huber, Corporate Director of Information Technology has been named IT Person of the Year at the 2012 Hotelier Middle East Awards.
A member of the executive team since 2008, Huber was instrumental in establishing the hotel group’s technology platform from day one, incorporating network system design and on-property implementation across TIME’s six properties, to the recent centralisation of all IT services, which reduced the total cost of office automation by more than 50%.
“Thomas is an experienced hotelier with experience on three continents, and with an amazing eye for detail in all areas. Innovative, commercially astute and also very much a people person, who is equally at home front of house, he is a rare individual and leader who has revolutionised the way we approach technology at TIME Hotels,” said Mohamed Awadalla, Area Vice President, TIME Hotels Management.
Now in its eighth year, the Hotelier Middle East Awards were created to reward both front and back-of-house individuals that collectively contribute to the overall success of some of the region’s best known hotels. Huber faced stiff competition in the technology category, beating off four other technology experts from Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, Jumeirah, Atlantis and the InterContinental Hotel Group.
Under his innovative leadership, TIME Hotels became the first hotel group in the Middle East to fully deploy Microsoft Office365 and implement cloud computing technologies across the brand. His other achievements over the last four years include the introduction of a company-wide Intranet platform, redesign of the company data networks - which reduced internal costs for data communications by more than 25% - and the complete overhaul of owning company GGICO’s technology platform.
“I’m thrilled to receive this prestigious industry accolade, and especially delighted that the efforts of both my team, and TIME Hotels, in moving towards a paperless business environment, with all critical HR forms now executed using a software workflow tool, has been recognised by my peers,” said Huber.
“Although Thomas is in charge of IT, he is also very much a hands-on team player when it comes to the day-to-day operation, and often steps in to oversee our busy portfolio of properties in my absence, making him the consummate hotel all-rounder,” commented Awadalla.
