Lenovo EMEA President Outlines Regional Growth Strategy And Future Of PC+ Era During Middle East Visit

Gianfranco Lanci today reinforced Lenovo’s commitment to Middle East and Africa (MEA) and outlined the company’s regional growth strategy and the future of PC+ era, during his first visit to the region since he took the helm as president EMEA, senior vice president Lenovo Group, in April 2012.
As the global corporation marks its landmark achievement in securing the number two market position amongst PC manufacturers worldwide (according to IDC Q3 2012 Final Results), it recognizes the strategic importance of emerging markets such as MEA for sustained growth.
During a media roundtable in Dubai, Lanci stated that Lenovo has seen its MEA business go from strength to strength, achieving more than ten per cent market share in seven countries, including UAE, Egypt, South Africa, Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan and Morocco.
“Lenovo’s MEA business is today significant contributor to EMEA revenues and we recognize the enormous contribution that the region lends to our success worldwide – making it strategically critical for global growth and leadership, and one to which we are wholly committed to investing in and expanding,” he commented.
As per IDC Q3 2012 Final Results, Lenovo in EMEA has a 10.8 per cent market share and is now ranked the number 3 PC manufacturer with 26.5 per cent YTY growth, the highest growth amongst the top 10 main vendors.
In MEA, Lenovo has also achieved the highest growth amongst the top 10 main vendors.
“We are witnessing a year-to-year growth of 46.6 per cent in MEA and 61.3 per cent in the Gulf region. In desktop PCs, we have jumped up in the rank to third in MEA with 13.2 per cent year-to-year growth and to sixth in portable PC with 56.6 per cent year-to-year growth. In the UAE, we have increased our market share to 12.2 per cent while in Saudi Arabia, we have a reached a historic high of 8.8 per cent and have doubled our consumer segment in the Kingdom .”

Lenovo has recently launched a range of innovative PCs in MEA, including the ThinkPad X1 Carbon; a premier Ultrabook, with carbon-fiber top cover and roll cage that delivers an outstanding mobile experience inside a sleek and stylish design. The ThinkCentre All-in-One desktop PC, designed to meet the needs of government, education and large enterprise customers, was also introduced across MEA. Most recently, Lenovo premiered its flagship Lenovo Yoga, with a revolutionary hinge that allows it to uniquely move 360° and fold from laptop to tablet in one simple motion and a family of convertibles for consumers and SMBs.
Oliver Ebel, executive director and general manager Middle East & Africa added: “Since establishing presence in MEA, Lenovo has demonstrated continued commitment to the region, including investment in establishing offices in UAE and South Africa and four new fully-fledged Lenovo operations in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco and Kenya, with plans for future expansion across MEA. In addition, we have, in few short years, more than tripled our workforce in the region to 150 employees.”
Ebel added: “Lenovo’s strategy for continued growth in the MEA includes a commitment to our customers and strategic partners by bringing true innovation to the market, and to continue streamlining and enhancing channels for delivery.”
