Published Nov 18, 2012

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has received a congratulatory message from the Mayor of Seoul and President of WeGO Won Soon Park, following Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre’s (ADSIC), Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure (AD-SDI) program winning the Outstanding e-Government Prize in Open City category during the recently concluded 1st World e-Governments Organization of Cities and Local Governments (WeGO) Awards 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.

The WeGO Awards aims to recognize and promote outstanding practices of e-government of cities and local governments as well as public organizations and agencies around the world that use information and communication technologies to improve administrative efficiency and citizens’ access to public services.

H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, ADSIC Director General, received the award during the first edition of the WeGO Awards ceremony in Barcelona, in the presence of several international delegates and representatives of organisations nominated for other categories of WeGO awards. ADSIC’s Director of Strategy & Planning, Abdulkarim Al Raeesi, was also present at the event.

ADSIC is the governmental body overseeing Abu Dhabi’s Information Technology agenda in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. ADSIC also oversees the e-government program of the emirate to facilitate the exchange of geospatial data among local government agencies and other related entities.

Commenting on the award, H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, ADSIC Director General, said, “The Outstanding e-Government Prize that we received during the recent WeGO Awards reaffirms the success of the Abu Dhabi Government in adopting modern technologies and best practices in the delivery of public services. This award also reinforces the prestigious position achieved by Abu Dhabi as a modern city that adopts latest technologies that enable various government agencies and individuals to carry out their duties easily.”

“It is a great honor for Abu Dhabi and the entire UAE that the AD-SDI program has been recognized as a world-class and highly successful e-government initiative through the prestigious WeGO Awards. Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre has developed the Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure as a platform that would promote, facilitate, coordinate and support the development of a dynamic and flexible geospatial environment,” H.E. added.

WeGO, launched in 2010, pursues sustainable city development based on e-Government by fostering collaborations among e-governing cities, bringing efficiency and transparency into public administration. Seoul is the President city of WeGO while Barcelona is the Executive Vice President city. Abu Dhabi is one of seven Vice President cities along with Frankfurt, Nairobi, Paris, San Francisco, and São Paulo.

ADSIC has established the AD-SDI to provide convenient, open access to high-quality and up-to-date geographic information and spatially enabled e-government services. AD-SDI also works with stakeholders on collaborative projects to help them develop new geospatial data products. Since its inception in 2005, ADSIC has been supervising the implementation of Abu Dhabi’s e-Government program in coordination with the emirate’s government entities. It strategically focuses on efficiency and end-users as well as cross-entity and comprehensive holistic design.
