StorIT Addresses Middle East SMB Demand for Virtual Data Protection with All-In-One VM Protection Solution

Published Nov 19, 2012

StorIT, one of the leading data storage specialist value added distributor in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region, is looking to address the demand of SMBs in the region for virtual data back-up and storage with a new all-in-one Virtual Machine (VM) protection solution from Quantum Corp, a proven global expert in data protection and big data management. The ‘Quantum vmPRO’ back up software and storage leverages de-duplication to retain months of data, also allowing SMBs to scale the software to meet their growth requirements. The new vmPRO Standard Edition software protects up to 1 TB of virtual data and is available as a full-featured free download that can provide a risk-free way to explore its superior features and value.

According to StorIT senior executives, the vmPRO software offers key capability to speed up and simplify backup and restoration processes with VMware VMDK format, the industry’s only native backup application for virtual environments. The software is also easy to deploy and use, where restoration can be done in one step. In fact, any browser can be used to search and restore files, objects and whole VMs from anywhere, without the use of a backup application. The ‘Quantum vmPRO’ works seamlessly with the VMware vCenter server to auto-discover new VMs that were added to an environment, which allows it to work directly with VMware API for data protection and ensuring that no VM goes unprotected. Lastly, the software has been certified 'VMware Ready,' an indication of its integration with VMware's API.

“SMBs in the Middle East region have demonstrated a strong demand for ‘data protection’ and have been constantly on the lookout for a better way to protect their virtual environments, and vmPro is a ‘Game Changer’,” said Boby Joseph, CEO, StorIT. “Looking to address this demand, we have brought in Quantum’s vmPRO back up software and storage solution, a unique offering that backs up data in the native VM format, thereby allowing users to instantly restore individual files or boot VMs without a backup application. Offering this strategic and efficient software is reflective of our continued commitment to provide state-of-the-art technologies that aim to meet the demands of SMBs and enterprises in the region.”

The standard edition of the software can easily be deployed as a virtual appliance with users getting free access to the Quantum Forum V for online support. To complement this, users can also download Quantum's DXi V1000, a free full-featured virtual deduplication appliance that can store up to 15 TB of de-duplicated data. This virtual appliance works with the vmPRO software and also acts a path to the cloud. The combination of vmPRO software and DXi appliances like the DXi V1000 not only provides a 95 per cent data reduction but also offers the most effective deduplication rates and the fastest VM recovery available today.

The vmPRO is also fast gaining the approval of industry specialists, having already won its share of awards from various award giving bodies. Earlier in February this year, the software was named ‘Backup Hardware Product of the Year’ by Storage Magazine and SearchStorage.com’s ‘Product of the Year’ competition. Last year, the vmPRO 4000 protection solution was awarded ‘Storage Virtualization Product of the Year’ during the ‘2011 Storage, Virtualization and Cloud Computing (SVC) Awards.’
