Microsoft's Zune HD Versus Apple's IPod Nano

Published Sep 27, 2009
Apple's family of iPods and its iTunes online store have dominated the MP3 player market for almost a decade.

Now, Microsoft hopes its Zune HD touchscreen media player will help it play catch up with the latest iPod nano.

Announced earlier this year and now available in the US, Zune HD is the latest in a series of portable music players manufactured by Microsoft.

Although so far overshadowed by the success of Apple's iPods, the best selling MP3 players in the world, the computer technology firm is hoping their latest Zune HD will give the leader a run for its money.

Featuring a built in HD radio receiver, high definition video output capabilities, an organic light emitting diode (OLED) touch screen, Wi-Fi and an internet browser, Microsoft says the Zune HD's video service will also incorporate synching options with subscribers of the Xbox LIVE, the company's online multi player gaming and digital media service.

Meanwhile, Apple's fifth generation iPod nano, launched with much fanfare earlier this month, features, for the first time in an iPod, a video camera, FM radio, a pedometer, voice recording capabilities, a built in speaker and a larger screen. All this while maintaining its slim frame.

The Zune HD does not officially retail in the UAE but can be ordered from Amazon.com for approximately Dh800 for the 16GB model while the iPod nano is available at all iStyle stores across the Emirates for Dh777 for the 16GB model.
