FTTH, the Ultra Fast Broadband for a Future at the Speed of Light in the ICT World

The FTTH Council Middle East and North Africa held on December 12 & 13, 2012 the 4th edition of its annual conferences in Grand Hyatt Doha Hotel under the theme “FTTH, the Future at the Speed of Light” with important representatives from ictQATAR, ITU and FTTH Council MENA attending.

The benefits and the acceleration of the FTTH deployment in the MENA region were debated through specific discussion Panels between the important keynote speakers, Mr Ebrahim Al-Haddad, Regional Director of ITU Regional Office for the Arab States, Ms Suvi Linden, Special Envoy for the Broadband Commission as well as Mr Faris Awartani, Chairman of FTTH Council Middle East & North Africa.

“Fibre to the Home is key to a sustainable future, ensuring a healthy environment for socioeconomic development.”, concluded Mr Awartani, Chairman of FTTH Council MENA in this message to the participants, “we believe that FTTH is leading the new generation and the way to innovation and technology. Our region is in great need for a future-proof infrastructure in order to answer the requirements of the new emerging perspectives.”

For the fourth year FTTH Council MENA witnessed another huge success during the conference in Doha and was proud to receive speakers, exhibitors and delegates from North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and of course the Middle East and Africa who made it again the biggest FTTH event in the region.

« FTTH, the Future at the Speed of Light » was the theme of the conference for 2012 focusing mainly on the MENA region with high number of speakers in addition to success stories and analysis from the MENA region and the world.
An exhibition was held in parallel to the conference to show the latest products and solutions in terms of Fibre to the Home and Fibre in the Home with the participation of the FTTH industry valuable companies.

In addition, a pre-conference workshop was held on Tuesday 11 December to discuss the benefits and the importance of FTTH under the title “What's New In Fiber Optics - Gigabits To The Home".

After Amman in 2009, Beirut in 2010, Sharm El Sheikh in 2011 and Doha in 2012, the FTTH Council MENA Board members were happy to announce during the conference the next location for their 2013 conference to be in Morocco!
