Epson Technology Helps Retailers Save Money And Improve Customer Experience

Published Dec 16, 2012

With recent figures suggesting that 54% of EMEA’s retailers plan to invest in cloud based IT capabilities during 2012 , Epson has developed a retail printing solution capable of working with a cloud based system and enhancing the benefits it brings – reducing costs and streamlining end customer interaction and experience.
These new intelligent printers, the Epson TM-T88V-i and TM-T70-i, have been developed using Epson’s new ePOS print technology, and are now available in the Middle East. This technology enables users to print out receipts, tickets and coupons at the point of sale, as well as in back office and kitchen environments, directly from tablets and other mobile devices. This can be done using any web browser which supports HTML5, without the need for PCs, servers or drivers.

Ideally suited to hospitality environments, such as restaurants, in which tablet devices are used for taking and communicating orders, these solutions help improve the customer experience and order accuracy. They are also ideal for retail stores using mobile devices to cut down on queuing times at the till point, as well as other businesses looking to move point of sale IT to an open architecture system, in order to streamline processes and simplify IT management.

Both the Epson TM-T88V-i and TM-T70-i require only a network connection to operate and work with most operating platforms such iOS, Android and Windows. Their remote functionality, and Epson’s TMNet Web configuration tool, makes them simple to integrate into existing IT systems, as well as to use and update, The printers can also communicate with multiple devices simultaneously, using different applications, without users having to change their setting.

By introducing the ability for these printers to communicate via the cloud, Epson is able to help retailers reduce upfront investment costs, due to the fact that no PCs, servers or drivers are needed. Additionally, PC-less and server-less operations vastly reduces power consumption, further helping to reduce costs and improve green credential for retailers.

Finally, thanks to the ePOS print technology, TM-T88V-i and TM-T70-i can control cash drawers and other Epson TM printers, both wired or wirelessly, improving systems interfaces and streamlining communications between peripherals – for example, communicating front-of-house or restaurant order entries to kitchen or hotel checkouts printers.

Khalil El-Dalu, General Manager, Epson Middle East, says: “These new intelligent systems offer several cost saving and IT streamlining advantages to retail businesses in the Middle East. We recognise the growing demand from the industry to have printing solutions that work with their cloud based IT infrastructure, and our new printers not only do this, but enhance the benefits these systems bring.”
