‘Safer Internet Day 2013’ is the 10th edition of the global initiative held every February by Insafe, a European network of Awareness Centres that promote the safe and responsible use of the Internet and mobile devices, particularly among today’s youths. This year’s theme is ‘Online Rights and Responsibilities’. Users around the world will be reminded to ‘connect with respect’ on February 5, 2013.
Nahtam’s local promotion of the event is inspired by its past campaign, Nahtam Developing Internet Safe Community (NahtamDISC). The campaign is geared towards educating parents, youths, teachers and social workers on the importance of cyber safety. Among the local activities slated to be held as part of Safer Internet Day 2013 is a free workshop that will be open to the public from February 6 to 9, 2012, 3pm to 10pm, at the Khalidiya Mall Atrium in Abu Dhabi.
As part of its commitment to ensuring the responsible use of technology, Injazat Data Systems, an industry recognized market leader in the region for Information Technology Outsourcing, Cloud and Data Center Managed Services, will be fully supporting activities and seminars organized by Nahtam Social Responsibility, a local private voluntary organization, to mark world ‘Safer Internet Day’ this year.
“Injazat shares Nahtam Social Responsibility’s view that more needs to be done to educate society – and families in particular – on the importance of exploring the internet with the proper safety measures in place, such as passwords, antivirus applications and firewalls. Many parents are unaware of how their children are privately using the internet and lack knowledge of basic countermeasures to protect their loved ones from malicious online attacks. Given how the region’s youths are becoming more technologically proficient, Injazat considers ‘Safer Internet Day 2013’ an important platform for promoting cyber safety and security in cooperation with Nahtam,” said Ali Al Nuaimi, Chief Corporate Support Officer, Injazat Data Systems.
As one of the UAE’s leading information and communications technology (ICT) players, Injazat advocates initiatives aimed at increasing awareness on the impact of technology on society. The company previously sponsored a Google Day Event and the 1st Annual Technology Comics Competition in Zayed University to educate and encourage Emirati youths to enhance their technology skills and discuss the impact of technology on society. Injazat is particularly concerned about the influence of technology on youths, and will thus continue to conduct various workshops and apprenticeships aimed at teaching them how to harness the power of ICT in a responsible and safe manner.
‘Nahtam’ is Arabic for ‘We Care.’ Nahtam Social Responsibility is a private voluntary organization in the UAE that addresses the evolving social needs of the country’s citizens and residents and the world’s underprivileged communities.
Injazat Data Systems is an industry-recognized market leader in the region for Information Technology, Data Center and IT Managed Services. Injazat combines its local expertise and presence with an extensive global technology partnership network. The company emphasizes the importance of nurturing the communities it touches and encourages fellow industry members to engage in impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Since its inception in 2005, Injazat has been actively harnessing ICT to help Abu Dhabi move closer to its Vision 2030 development goals and spur social development.
