Du Provides Broadband Connection On Dubai Metro Through Its Wi-Fi Service

du, the UAE’s integrated telecom operator is extending its WiFi service which is currently offered in many hotspots around Dubai also to the new Dubai Metro line as part of a partnership agreement with RTA. The wireless broadband connection from du will be available both on metro trains and stations.

The partnership with the RTA marks a noteworthy milestone for du, empowering the transport industry for the first time in the UAE with smart in rail wireless communications.

du’s next generation network offers on the move seamless wireless internet connectivity for passengers on the trains and in the stations for the first time in the UAE.

The train compartments will be connected to the operator’s network using a state of the art WiMAX and 3rd generation network for backhauling.

The du WiFi service is available to any visitor and resident using Dubai Metro with a WiFi enabled device such as laptop, smart phone or PDA.

Customers can select the most suitable way of payment between a credit card or by using du WoW recharge cards which are available throughout the country at du Shops and other authorized outlets.

du WiFi offers the best and convenient way to access broadband on the move in Dubai combining the best rates in town and Pay by the Second billing.

Commenting on the du and RTA alliance, Farid Faraidooni, EVP Commercial, du, said: “The Dubai Metro’s introduction of the region’s first in rail WiFi enabled network, will place it among an elite group of metro operators worldwide, providing public access WiFi connections. du is proud to be contributing to this very significant milestone, which represents an evolution in the UAE’s transport industry”.

“Our next generation WiFi network will enable passengers to freely access the internet at anytime while on the move. We are introducing world class in rail communications for the first time in Dubai that combines both innovation and convenience,” he added.

In addition to this, du has strengthened its 2G and 3G mobile coverage at all Dubai Metro stations and along the entire Red Line for seamless connectivity and a superior communication experience for all commuters.

The first Dubai Metro line (Redline) started operations on 9 September 2009 with an estimated 600 million passenger annual capacity by 2020.
