OT Eyes Stake In Nigerian Operator

Published Sep 30, 2009
Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) submitted an offer to buy 75 percent of Nigerian state owned operator Nitel as part of its expansion plans in Africa.

The company would separate Nitel's fixed and mobile units after the takeover, and focus on mobile activities, a company official added.

OTH offered $256.5 million for the Nigerian company in 2005 but the Nigerian government cancelled the privatization plans due to the low value of offers at that time.
