UAE BlackBerry fans will tomorrow become the first users in the world to have access to the Q5 budget model smartphone, BlackBerry announced today.
From 17.00 UAE time, customers will be allowed to queue at the new BlackBerry-branded retail store in Dubai Mall to witness an unveiling and purchase the handset, which will retail for AED 1,499.
A limited number of the new smartphones will be exclusively available for early sale during the store's opening day. Customers will also have the opportunity to pre-order the smartphone at the store, which will be widely available next month from authorised carriers and retailers in the UAE and across the Middle East.
The Q5 features a 3.1-inch touch-screen together with a Qwerty keyboard that is similar to that of the Curve, with discrete keys that are flatter than those of the Q10 and not shaped for optimum typing.
The 5MP camera is considerably lower in spec than that of the 8MP offering of the Q10 and Z10. It comes with a Time Shift mode, allowing multiple-image capture in a single click and the option to select the optimum shot.
"BlackBerry is excited to bring a new BlackBerry Qwerty smartphone, the BlackBerry Q5, to our customers in selected markets around world," said Thorsten Heins, president and CEO of BlackBerry, at the mid-May launch of the Q5.
"The BlackBerry Q5 gives you the best of everything with its cutting-edge BlackBerry 10 functionality and a physical Qwerty keyboard. It is for youthful fans that are passionate, confident and bold, and it makes it easy for them to have fun, create, share and stay connected."
