Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) announced it has undergone a major digital overhaul of key business systems in a bid to achieve faster, more efficient growth.
The news is set to be welcomed across Qatar, which is in the midst of an unprecedented building boom.
Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and in line with the country's 2030 Vision, infrastructure spend is estimated to reach US$150bn up until 2017.
To help meet intense demand for world-class Primary materials and logistics & Supply chain, Port Management, QPMC has enlisted SAP to devise the most advanced set of business solutions Middle East and Africa (MENA) has ever seen.
In particular, SAP’s input will significantly automate and improve the efficiency of the company’s operational backbone.
The project entails running a highly customised Port Operation Management System, which is directly linked to SAP’s Material Management solution. In addition, SAP will provide solutions for Sahara Washed sand Plant Maintenance, Production Planning, Finance and Controlling, Human Capital Management, Quality Management, Project Systems and Funds Management.
“Qatar’s landscape is changing in a profound way, and QPMC is honored to be at the centre of it all,” said, Mr Khalid Al Rabban QPMC Chairman.
“But with such involvement comes great responsibility. The immense, game-changing nature of our infrastructure and construction ambitions cannot be fully realized if we are not able to optimize our operations in every conceivable sense. SAP will be enormously important in this respect, making use more agile, transparent and, ultimately, more effective.”

Its assets include the world’s largest sand washing plant (capable of cleaning up to 1180 tonnes of sand per hour), the vast Gabbro aggregate cargo port terminal in Mesaieed and a jetty project in Lusail, Cement Silos project. QPMC also has Regional operations in the UAE and Oman.
“QPMC has always been at the forefront of Qatar’s construction sector and the importance of its leadership is growing exponentially,” said Gergi Abboud, Managing Director, SAP Gulf.
“SAP is proud to work alongside such an ambitious, powerful company as it seeks to fundamentally – and sustainably - forge a new future for the people of Qatar. The sheer scale and complexity of the country’s construction agenda cannot be underestimated and that is why QPMC is, as ever, thinking ahead to ensure it has the systems in place to deliver the best possible outcome.”
Maran Nagarajan, CEO, Kaar Technologies, Global SAP Consulting and Services provider, said:
“By working closely with QPMC and listening to their business challenges, we incorporated SAP best practices and implemented a partially-customized solution to meet their specific needs. The project’s success owes huge thanks to the advanced technical and business skills of the teams at Kaar Technologies, QPMC and SAP.”
