GITEX Shopper 2013 Set to Tap US$ 3.9 Billion UAE Electronics Market

Published Aug 27, 2013

The Middle East’s largest and most anticipated consumer IT and electronics show has sold out as some of the world’s top brands and biggest names in the retail sector confirm their presence at this year’s GITEX Shopper. The eight-day show scheduled to take place from 5 - 12 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre, follows an earlier GITEX Shopper Spring edition which enjoyed record success for an inaugural show in the Middle East.

With the consumer electronics market in the UAE currently valued at US$ 3.9 billion and expected to grow to US$ 4.3 billion by 2015 according to latest industry reports[1], the UAE remains a key market in the Middle East. GITEX Shopper offers retailers a perfect platform to tap into a burgeoning market of tech-savvy consumers seeking the best deals on the latest consumer electronics products available.

Regional power retailers including Al Falak, E-City, Emax, Geekay, iStyle, Jacky’s Electronics, Jumbo Electronics, MK Trading, One Mobile, Plug-Ins, Sharaf DG, Tarsam and Tec Buy, and top world brands such as Samsung, the platinum sponsor for GITEX Shopper 2013, Bose, Dell, HP, Nestle, Seagate and Videocon, are promising exciting new product launches and unbeatable offers across the full range of technology, communication and entertainment sectors.

GITEX Shopper organisers have announced an unprecedented lineup of entertainment features, competitions and prizes this year. Opening hours will run for a full 12 hours a day, from 11:00am to 11:00pm, with the metro station close by to offer visitors convenient access to and from the show.

“GITEX Shopper continues to play a significant role in the bottom line success of the region’s power retailers and the world-leading brands that participate at the show, generating millions of dollars in revenue and providing access to a consumer audience that actively waits for the show to buy the latest products on the market,” said Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), organiser of GITEX Shopper. “GITEX Shopper enjoys strong brand equity with consumers in the region, as demonstrated by the phenomenal success of our first GITEX Shopper Spring event launched in April this year. With two shows a year, we offer our exhibitors extraordinary revenue generating potential that would otherwise not be realised.”

Ashish Panjabi, Chief Operating Officer of Jacky's Middle East said: “GITEX Shopper is the biggest event in our business calendar and we do more than double our monthly sales in this eight day period. We've been an exhibitor for 11 years now and the largest exhibitor from a sales revenue perspective for several years in a row. We have great expectations for this year too, and anticipate more aggressive offers and more product launches, as well as more demand from visitors that will delay their back to school shopping for the show.”

Marco Vocale, Head of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Gulf Electronics said: “2013 has been a very exciting year for consumer technology, even more so for Samsung as we brought some of our flagship devices to market in the Gulf. It is now the time of the year where our teams start to build our plans to participate in GITEX Shopper. Samsung is in the business of enriching people’s lives through innovative technology and GITEX Shopper is the perfect platform for us to directly reach the lives of our valued customers. We will be showcasing some of the latest technologies and solutions, and consumers can expect to find an exciting array of Samsung products on sale, from Smart TVs and notebooks, to tablets and smartphones.”

Power retailer Emax Electronics recognises the potential of GITEX Shopper as CEO Neelesh Bhatnagar explains: “GITEX Shopper always provides an excellent opportunity for a retailer to cater to a diversified base of local and regional customers who are looking for the latest in the world of electronics. Emax delivers on this by offering the latest products at the best prices, an approach that has resulted in us recording a phenomenal 80% increase in sales last year. We are looking forward to yet another amazing GITEX Shopper with a host of rich offerings and expect to welcome a record number of visitors to our stand.”

GITEX Shopper 2013 will take place from 5 - 12 October 2013. The show is open from 11:00am to 11:00pm on all days.

Tickets are priced at AED 30 per person and will be available at the venue and from selected EPPCO, ENOC and Zoom outlets closer to the show. Entry is free for children below the age of five.
