Emirati Engineer from EIAST Presents Papers at 2013 SPIE Optics + Photonics Conference in US

The Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) has announced that Saeed Al-Mansoori, an Associate Image Processing Engineer at EIAST’s Space Image Processing and Analysis Department, has successfully participated at the SPIE Optics + Photonics conference held recently in San Diego, California, USA.
Al-Mansoori chaired a session on Satellite Data Compression, Communication, and Processing during the conference organized by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. He also presented two research papers titled ‘Multi-Watermarking Scheme for Copyright Protection and Content Authentication of DubaiSat-1 Satellite Imagery’ and ‘Enhancing DubaiSat-1 Satellite Imagery Using a Single Image Super-Resolution.’ Al-Mansoori was also a member of the organizing committee of SPIE.
Running for five days at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, the SPIE Optics + Photonics conference gathered the world’s best minds in nanoscience and engineering, solar energy and technology, organic photonics and electronics, and optical engineering and applications. Conference attendees acknowledged Al-Mansoori’s expertise and also commended EIAST for its efforts to broaden the UAE’s pool of specialist Emirati engineers.
“This great achievement from one of our own will further motivate us to provide our Emirati students with the skill sets they need to develop key areas such as satellite communications. Saeed Al-Mansoori represents the type of professional that the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology aims to mold, one that is excellence-oriented and willing to share his talents for the betterment of society. He is proof of the success of EIAST’s efforts to mold Emirati experts and leaders who can respond to the needs and challenges of the times,” added H.E. Yousuf Al Shaibani, Director General, Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology.
“I am proud to have had the rare opportunity to showcase the advances the UAE has made in satellite technology and the directions we are pursuing moving forward. I also had the chance to learn about the latest trends and best practices surrounding the field and will definitely apply my newly-acquired knowledge at EIAST. This has reaffirmed my belief in the important role that UAE Nationals such as myself can play in raising our nation’s science and technology capabilities up to global standards,” said Al-Mansoori.
EIAST’s Emirati engineers have been at the forefront of several science and technology initiatives in the UAE, including satellite manufacturing. A team of the Institution’s engineers are in fact overseeing the development of DubaiSat-3, the first satellite that will be completed in the UAE.
EIAST is an entity of the Government of Dubai established in 2006 to promote a culture of advanced scientific research and technology innovation in Dubai and the entire UAE with a particular focus on satellite technology. It oversaw the development of DubaiSat-1, the UAE’s first Earth observation satellite. Emirati engineers from the Institution are currently involved in DubaiSat-3, an ambitious project which aims to give the UAE a leadership role in satellite manufacturing.
