SAP Charity Ball Raises AED 100K for the Dubai Autism Center

Published Oct 31, 2013

A charity ball organised by SAP’s UAE employees has raised AED 100K for the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC).

AED 65,000 was raised by SAP’s UAE employees, with a further AED 35,000 coming from the SAP EMEA donation program.

“Any support we receive can help us make a huge difference to the lives of children with autism spectrum disorder,” said Sara Baker, Community Service Unit Head at DAC.

“It is always encouraging to see companies in the private sector play their part, but it is even more heart-warming when support comes from an entirely employee-led initiative. I would like to personally thank SAP for encouraging a culture of giving among the workforce and for making this event happen.”

DAC currently has the capacity to accommodate 60 children and a 260-strong waiting list.

Autism is on the rise across the world. A recent case in point is a study by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention stating that one in 50 American children could be affected.

“DAC is doing a fantastic job of delivering life-changing results for children with autism,” said Qais Gharaibeh, Managing Director – UAE, SAP MENA.

“DAC concentrates on the unique abilities of every single child, which is an admirable, important and inclusive approach. Needless to say we are extremely happy to support their exemplary work.”

Safwat Gerges, Manager and Owner, Arthur Murray Franchised Dance Centres, which collaborated with SAP on the Charity Ball, said:

“We are honoured to contribute to a noble cause that will have a positive impact on the lives of children with Autism and also raise awareness of the incredible potential they can offer to society.”

In support of its mission to help the world run better and improve people's lives, SAP recently announced a pilot initiative to employ people with autism worldwide as software testers, programmers and data quality assurance specialists. The pilot is currently running in Ireland and India, and there are plans to expand it to include the US, Canada and Germany.
