Marita Mitschein, SAP Training & Development Institute Managing Director and Growth Plan Lead for SAP Middle East & North Africa, has won the Woman Leadership Award in the Business & Economic Development category of the Asian Women Leadership Awards.
Mrs. Mitschein was recognised for her key role in SAP’s recent success in the region. The company continues to deliver double digit growth in MENA, and the employee base has expanded tenfold since setting up direct operations in September 2007.
In 2012 alone, SAP hired over 200 new employees. The company today has nine sales offices across the region, and there are further plans to expand. In particular, Mrs. Mitschein has been instrumental in rolling out SAP’s recently initiated four-year MENA additional spend plan.
“I am delighted to win this award, which is a testament to the hard work of all my colleagues across the region and their determination to establish MENA as one of the most innovative and exciting growth areas for SAP globally,” said Mrs. Mitschein.
SAP’s four-year plan includes recruiting more than 500 additional employees, opening several new offices and expanding the company’s partner ecosystem and the SAP® University Alliances program (UAP). Additionally, significant increases will be made in the availability of comprehensive, innovative and localized service offerings.
The plan also encompasses SAP’s Training and Development Institute, which was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) in November 2012.
The institute is designed to serve the entire MENA region through training and certifying SAP consultants (2,000 additional consultants within four years), driving partner and customer co-innovation, and enhancing the localised SAP portfolio of solutions. The institute currently accommodates over 40 developers, language experts and product managers.
The judges also praised Mrs. Mitschein’s role in identifying and nurturing young graduates. In particular, she has spearheaded the launch of the Mawared program, a three month training opportunity for young professionals/graduates.
Mawared training includes hands-on project experience and spans everything from negotiation and communication to conflict management and “design thinking”. Furthermore, the initiative will offer SAP certifications on associate level in core business and industry solutions
Across the MENA region the Mawared program has already graduated 108 talented students. 47 are currently undergoing training, and another 80 are due to start later this year.
As part of her work with Mawared, Mrs. Mitschein has helped facilitate collaborations with Oman’s Information Technology Authority (ITA) and Saudi Arabia’s Human Resources Development Fund.
