Schneider Electric to Demonstrate Leadership in Smart Cities at Annual Power to the Cloud Conference and Exhibition

Published Nov 20, 2013

Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, is set to demonstrate its leadership in Smart Cities at its annual ‘Power to The Cloud’ conference and exhibition being held this year under the theme ‘Building Next-Generation Mission Critical IT Infrastructure’.

To be held at Atlantis – The Palm in Dubai from November 25 – 26, the event will witness Schneider Electric showcasing its integrated ‘Smart City’ solutions in a series of simulated environments. The smart technology solutions facilitate Schneider Electric clients to save up to 30 per cent in energy consumption. This includes a 15 per cent reduction in water use and 20 per cent reduction in travel time and traffic delays.

As a leader in delivering urban efficiency through collaboration, Schneider Electric has conceptualized a five-step approach to achieving the short-term, visible, measureable, low-investment results that smart cities need.

Benoit Dubarle, Country President, UAE, Oman & Pakistan, Schneider Electric, said: “Dubai’s leadership has announced its forward-looking strategy to transform this dynamic city into a Smart City of the future, which is really commendable and visionary. As the population of Dubai continues to grow, it is imperative that the city is well geared for this growth. Adopting smart technologies will ensure that Dubai is energy-efficient and sustainable, even as it gets ready to host a large population.

“Dubai has taken the important first step among the five steps that Schneider Electric regards as crucial for shaping smart cities - that of conceptualizing the vision or setting the goal and the roadmap to get there. The other four steps - solutions, integration, innovation and collaboration - are sure to follow, given the political will and intent. Governments benefit immensely from efficient infrastructures that lead to increased resource efficiency while directly contributing to monetary savings and a better social inclusiveness and attractiveness.”

Schneider Electric played a key role in Abu Dhabi Municipality’s Energy Efficiency Programme that was rolled out in 2011 as a sector level pilot project. In 2014, the initiative is set to enter its second phase under ‘City-wide Level Scale Up Deployment’. The key outcome of the project in phase one was a saving of nearly 46,000kWh of electricity. If executed on a city-wide level, the programme has the potential to save up to 1,900,000 MWh of electricity per annum. When translated into monetary value, these savings could total more than AED2,800 million over the next 10 years. Schneider Electric’s integrated offering of customized solutions of data collection, measurement and inspection and energy conservation has been attributed as a key factor for the programme’s ambitious deliverables.

“Schneider Electric set up its specialised Smart City division in 2010. With its expertise in energy management across several sectors and as a leader in data centre infrastructure and management, we offer a unique integrated management platform that sets our solutions apart from other market offerings and validates our expertise in providing customised smart city solutions,” added Dubarle.

Schneider Electric has worked in nearly 200 cities to tackle challenging issues and make life easier with its smart solutions. Some of its projects include the Guiyang’s Smart Grid in Guiyang City in China where the solution collects and analyses real-time operational data across a distribution network covering four million people.

Power to the Cloud 2013 is set to attract over 1,000 professionals and influencers from the IT and government sectors. In 2012, the event emerged as the largest datacenter gathering in the Middle East and Africa that drew the attendance of more than 600 IT professionals from across the region.
