Muscat Municipality, a unit of Diwan of the Royal Court in Oman, is upgrading its design technology capabilities with AutoCAD 2014, the latest edition of the renowned 2D and 3D computer-aided design software application. The municipality has acquired 65 AutoCAD 2014 licenses from Omnix International, the authorized distributor for Autodesk products in the Middle East, as an initial step to the planned upgrade. The move is part of Muscat municipality’s efforts to address the demands for world class high quality designs for the growing number of construction and development projects in Oman in general and Muscat city in particular. The acquisition makes Muscat the country’s first government entity to use AutoCAD 2014.
In line with the upgrade, Omnix will also be providing overview and training for the users at Muscat municipality. Use of the new software is a welcome move for engineers and designers of Muscat Municipality, who are now upgrading to a more modern 2D / 3D environment application--with further plans to upgrade to the revolutionary Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology using the latest Autodesk 3D design software, which will include Revit Suite and Civila 3D. According to Omnix senior executives, the AutoCAD 2014 software package for Muscat Municipality will also include Autodesk 360, Autodesk’s cloud based services platform that offers users with free storage, viewing capabilities, collaboration & sharing, recap photo trial, Pixlr services and rendering in the cloud.
“Upgrading our engineering team’s technical capabilities is an essential move that we needed to take in order to be able to better review project designs and produce more efficient designs for major building and infrastructure projects in Oman,” said Rashid Al Reyami, Director of Technical Support, Muscat Municipality. “We are confident that our decision to use AutoCAD 2014 will be able to help us address key challenges like saving costs and time, design accuracy and coming up with a unified source of data that will help in giving unique codes to plots, collaboration of GIS data and extracting attributes for building data.
Muscat municipality’s acquisition of new design software proves both timely and strategic as recent industry reports have forecasted that Oman will be awarded a total of USD 65 billion worth of projects in 2017, which is twice the combined value of projects awarded in the country over the last five years and with Muscat projects accounting for USD 20 billion of the total value.
“We commend Muscat Municipality for their initiative to upgrade and modernize their design technologies. Their efforts demonstrate their eagerness to address the challenges presented to them by the influx of construction projects in Muscat. Using AutoCAD 2014 is a major shift for their design process. Rest assured, we remain fully committed in helping Muscat municipality by providing the necessary training and guidance to make them proficient in using the new software,” concluded Dr. Jayant Deshpande, Director-CAE Division, Omnix International.
As part of Autodesk’s thrust towards the need for constant learning, users of the newly acquired Autodesk 2014 licences from Muscat Municipality have been invited to take part in the second edition of ‘Autodesk University Extension (AUx) Dubai 2013,’ the region’s largest CAD event, which is set to take place on December 17, 2013 at the Sheikh Maktoum Hall of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). The event is part of the Autodesk University conference, an annual series of Autodesk in-person and virtual user conferences that has already enjoyed a decade of success in the US. During the event, participants will be able to see some of Autodesk’s latest products; learn latest productivity tricks and tools used by professionals today; special talks and presentations from leading technology leaders and get certified for free on various Autodesk design programs.
