Brocade Fabric Vision Technology Enhancements to Help Mid-Sized Enterprises Better Leverage Fibre Channel Functionality Built into New EMC VNXe and Data Domain Solutions

Published May 13, 2014

Less than two weeks after EMC launched its new entry-level VNXe3200 storage array that supports the Fibre Channel protocol, Brocade has announced that it has made enhancements to its Fabric Vision technology and Network Advisor to enable mid-sized enterprises to better leverage the Fibre Channel functionality designed into the new EMC VNXe and Data Domain solutions. This is good news for mid-market customers in the Middle East who are intending to deploy virtualization and private cloud architectures running on EMC’s newly introduced systems, since Brocade’s technology will help administrators easily manage the SAN environment, avoid problems, maximize application performance, and reduce operational costs.

Yarob Sakhnini, regional director, MEMA at Brocade says, “As global leaders in Fibre Channel SAN technologies with a rich 15 year heritage, Brocade is constantly innovating in response to market demands. Mid-sized enterprises form a very large percentage of the total market and this segment has unique technology demands. In collaboration with EMC, we decided to address this and enable them to deploy Fibre Channel SANs that provide the same enterprise-class reliability, availability and performance used by more than 90 percent of the world’s Fortune 1000 companies.”

Brocade Fabric Vision technology that is available now, simplifies the setup and on-going operation of the new EMC storage and data protection systems. Included is Brocade’s advanced Monitoring and Alerting Policy Suite (MAPS) capability that proactively monitors the health and performance of the SAN infrastructure to ensure application uptime and availability in a single click for EMC Connectrix® Gen 5 Fibre Channel SAN switches. Customizable dashboard views provide early warning of potential problems and help IT staff to visualize overall fabric health and performance to reduce operational costs.

New features have also been added to Brocade Network Advisor Professional to support midsized environments. These include dual-fabric redundant paths between servers and storage that deliver enterprise-class reliability and availability. The software also supports smaller port counts, enabling SANs to be right-sized for optimal operation. The new Brocade Network Advisor Professional version will be available in the third quarter through EMC and its global network of channel partners

Brian Jackson, Senior Director, Global Alliances, EMC Corporation has commented that the company works closely with its partners to ensure customers of all sizes have access to the industry’s most advanced technologies to maintain a competitive edge for growth and prosperity and that the Brocade collaboration will help it’s midmarket customers further their journey to the cloud by transforming their operations to deliver IT as a service.
