Adding to an already impressive team of software networking and open source experts including David Meyer, chair of the OpenDaylight Technical Steering Committee, Tom Nadeau and Benson Schliesser, Brocade has announced the appointment of SDN and data center expert Colin Dixon as Principal Engineer. Dixon will be a part of the engineering leadership team that will spearhead Brocade’s Software Networking business and will continue to play a key role in the OpenDaylight project where he has been an active contributor.
Brocade is one of the original founding and Platinum members of the OpenDaylight Project. Brocade is a strong supporter of open networking solutions and architectures, and believes that openness is critical for the success of SDN. OpenDaylight and the contributions from Brocade will work to provide an open source platform for products and technologies that expand the intelligence of underlying network infrastructure to make it more responsive to overall IT and service provider demands. Dixon estimates that he will continue spending 60 to 70 percent of his time working with the OpenDaylight community.
Prior to joining Brocade, Colin has held a number of research roles at prestigious institutions including IBM Research’s Austin Lab, the University of Washington, Microsoft Research and Intel Research and his academic and research initiatives have been focused on the advancement of networking, protocols and data center technologies. He is also an expert on Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), a technology that is seeing a lot of interest among telecom companies.
Kelly Herrell, VP and GM of Software Networking, Brocade believes that Dixon’s strong technical background spanning both software and hardware and his pioneering work in future networking technologies will be a big asset to Brocade as the company continues to ‘refine its strategies’.
