Epson to Launch Pioneering Smart Glasses in the Middle East at GITEX 2014

Published Oct 8, 2014

With the Moverio BT-200, Epson is introducing a new way of seeing the world with its first Augmented Reality (AR) device that can be used on the move or at home. These second generation, see-through, binocular smart glasses build on the success of the BT-100 and are half the size and 58% lighter – weighing in at just 88g. The BT-200 unlocks the limitless potential of AR for developers looking to create apps for the consumer and business space.

Wearable technology is the future – The new Moverio is packed full of features and functionality for AR, enabling a digitally enhanced view of the real world. Sensing technology, including a front-facing camera, gyroscope, GPS system, compass, and accelerometer, allows the device to accurately understand a user’s movements and the world around them.

Khalil El-Dalu, General Manager, Epson Middle East , says: “Consumer wearable electronics represents a significant growth segment with a forecast value, worldwide, of over $8bn in 2013, growing to almost $19bn by 2017. Tapping into this growing demand for wearable technology, we have developed the BT-200 - the only affordable, binocular, see-through device of its kind on the market that projects content over a viewer’s entire field of vision. It’s not vapour-ware, its a real proposition, as we’ve been in this market with a tangible product that has been available to purchase since 2011.”

Apps, delivered to you – The Moverio Apps Market makes the most of the BT-200’s updateable, open-platform Android OS, giving users access to specially designed apps. The developers’ site is live where developers will find all the tools and information necessary to build apps for Moverio for commercial availability. In addition to consumer applications, the BT-200 can serve as a highly effective visual tool in a wide variety of commercial and vertical market applications, including training, logistics, science, medicine, security, education and more.

The BT-200 gives users a perceived screen of up to 320 inches (812 cm) in qHD resolution. Not only does it make the most of AR software, users can also watch 2D and 3D films with integrated Dolby Digital Plus sound. Experience films, games and apps in a new way. Take control with the user-friendly multi-touch trackpad and run applications on the Moverio’s fast 1.2GHz dual core processor. Its battery life of up to six hours ensures you won’t run out of power when you’re out and about.

Connect to the internet via Wi-Fi and download apps from the Moverio Apps Market to an 8GB internal memory, or increase the memory capacity up to 32GB using an SD card. The BT-200 can also connect with other devices, including smartphones, using Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA and Miracast
