Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA) is generating positive response and high interest at the ongoing Gitex Technology Week 2014, the largest information and communications technology (ICT) event in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. DAFZA’s newly launched Wi-Fi service is particularly attracting much attention from the visitors. The freezone is among the first free zones in the world to provide employees and customers with complementary Wi-Fi connection speed of up to 1 Mbps.
The new service demonstrates DAFZA’s commitment to support the transformation of Dubai into a smart city for efficient delivery of services through smart, interconnected systems and high-speed internet connection in public areas, which is in line with the vision and directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. DAFZA’s WiFi service is accessible through smart devices to enable communication between users and obtaining services.
During Gitex Technology Week 2014, DAFZA representatives demonstrate its Smart App features which enable investors, employees, visitors, and public to access the free zone’s services via smart devices to effectively accelerate the transaction processes. DAFZA also showcases the application’s advanced browsing tools to access its more than 300 services such as business set-up inquiries, forms and license renewal requests, visa application, and official letter forms, among others. The Smart App also provides location map and directions to DAFZA, work timings and routes of buses and metro services. In addition, the capability to link the app to other local and federal government authorities is in line with the integration efforts of the government.
Throughout Gitex Technology Week 2014, DAFZA further showcased features of its “DAFZA Eye”, a smart initiative that enables DAFZA employees, clients, visitors, and public in general to efficiently report issues, concerns, and incidents that require attention, investigation or corrective action.
Buthaina Hamad Bin Fahad, Director of Information & Communication Technology department, DAFZA, said: “DAFZA offers high-level components and state-of-the-art infrastructure supported by an exceptional Wi-Fi network to transform itself into a smart city. The launch of our new smart service is part of our efforts to enhance the experience of 1,600 international companies, of which 17 per cent work in the ICT industry, operating in the free zone. To ensure maximized and uninterrupted Wi-Fi service, we established 500 hotspots in our facilities and public transportation stations. The new service will reinforce DAFZA’s efforts to position itself as one of the most advanced free zones in the world.”
“DAFZA remains steadfast on its commitment to turn into a smart city by implementing relevant initiatives aimed at providing high quality standards and procedures. We also strive to offer an integrated infrastructure and interconnected smart services and solutions to attract regional and international investors to Dubai, which is one of the leading investment destinations in the world,” Bin Fahad added.
With robust presence across regional and international markets, DAFZA was awarded the titles of Global Free Zones of the Future 2012/13 and top Middle East Free Zones of the Future 2013/14. Located in the heart of the city, DAFZA is near Dubai International Airport, the world's second busiest airport by passengers and the world’s fifth busiest cargo airport in 2013. DAFZA offers a wide range of investment incentives and world-class facilities including 100 per cent tax exemption, 100 per cent foreign company ownership and no currency restrictions, among others.
