Sturdy Cable Management with Large Metal Rings

Published Apr 26, 2009
Swiss cabling specialist R&M (www.rdm.com) is expanding its Cable Management System for racks and patch panels in data centers. The range now includes heavy-duty versions consisting of specially designed metal rings and cable management panels made of metal. With these new features, users can easily store and patch even heavy cable bundles in the front of a rack.

Cable bundles are steadily increasing in volume and weight, especially in high density sys-tems and when Cat. 6 S/FTP patch cords are used. Network management is becoming more complex, but should be a quick task that can be handled with the greatest possible efficiency, ease, and flexibility. Cable management should ensure that individual cables do not shake, bend or become stuck. R&M had precisely these requirements in mind when it developed this advanced version of its Cable Management System. The new system is an adaptable all-in-one solution that can be installed quickly in small and large distributor sites of communication networks or data centers.

R&M offers metal rings 70 and 90 millimeters in diameter so users can maintain favorable bend radii when patching. Their flat shape and wide surface area help to minimize tensile and pressure loads and allow the patch cables to be laid stress-free. Individual cables can be inserted and taken out gently thanks to the specially designed ring opening. The reliabil-ity and safety of connections is therefore guaranteed in each phase of cable management.

The new metal components and the already proven plastic rings and plates can be used with each other in any combination. The rings are inserted in the cable guide plates in one quick step. Once the snap-in nub has locked in place, the rings are held in place due to spring action. They can also be secured with a screw.

The components for horizontal and vertical cable management are based on the same de-sign. Single or double unit modules can be mounted between the patch panels. For vertical cable management, there are plates with one, two and three rings. The one-ring version is intended for the new R&M Angled Panel, an angled 24-port /1U patch panel.

Teamed up with the R&Mfreenet modular cabling system, the newly expanded R&M Cable Management System will be an important factor in the future development of data centers and communication networks at companies of any size. The R&M Cable Management Sys-tem ensures long-term support no matter what the application situation, from a migration to 10 Gigabit Ethernet or a consolidation of infrastructure to an optimization of network man-agement. And the system can be integrated without any trouble at all into existing R&M dis-tributor systems.
