Etisalat Egypt to Deploy Cisco’s ACI for Next Generation Data Center

Published Mar 17, 2015

Cisco announced that it has been selected by Etisalat Egypt, to deliver an infrastructure project for their Data Center with Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI).

As the first Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) deployment in Africa, this represents a major milestone in the companies’ long-standing relationship. Cisco ACI will help Etisalat to deliver operational efficiency, rapid deployment for customers across the board, as well as ensure higher availability in a secure environment, thereby guaranteeing increased customer satisfaction

Highlights/Key Facts:
• Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) is a Software Defined Network (SDN) solution for the data center and cloud, which offers full visibility and integrated management of both physical and virtual networked IT resources, all built around the needs of applications. It is a holistic architecture with centralized automation and policy-driven application profiles.
• Cisco ACI enables the software-defined data center that delivers an agile, fast IT, improved operational efficiency, greater productivity, and easier scaling, as well as improved security for customers. It will help to break down silos and unify all the component parts of its IT infrastructure – networking, storage, compute, network services, applications, security– thereby managing them as a single, dynamic entity without compromise.
• Cisco ACI data center switching innovations will allow Etisalat’s network to rapidly respond to its application development teams, while delivering up to 75 percent total cost of ownership savings compared to merchant silicon-based switches and software-only network virtualization solutions.

Mr Khaled Al Mansouri CIO at Etisalat, “As a leading telecommunications services provider in Egypt, it is important that we are able to stay ahead of the game in the competitive telecoms sector and continuously innovate to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers. Cisco’s data center solutions will provide Etisalat with readiness for a robust, secure and highly efficient data center to support the tremendous growth in mobile broadband bandwidth we are expecting to witness in Egypt in the near future. This will deliver faster business processes whilst also significantly improve our customer offering.”

Mr. Khalid Al Kaf, Director for IT Operations and Infrastructure at Etisalat, “With global data center traffic predicted to nearly triple and nearly two-thirds of all data center workloads will be processed in the cloud, Cisco ACI will enable Etisalat to rapidly adapt and respond to such trends. The future of networking with ACI within the service provider as with other sectors is about providing a network that is deployed, monitored, and managed in a fashion that supports rapid application change. We are confident that Cisco ACI will help Etisalat achieve this through the reduction of complexity and a common policy framework that can automate provisioning and managing of resources.”

Nick Adamo, Senior Vice President of Global Service Provider at Cisco, “This milestone announcement today builds off of the years of collaboration between Etisalat Egypt and Cisco. Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure will help Etisalat Egypt deliver new products and services to their customers, manage risk and security threats, and drive productivity. This, in turn, will deliver improved customer services and satisfaction. As billions of new connections are created to form an Internet of Everything (IoE) that most of us will experience through applications, there must be an even greater focus on rapid and consistent application deployment. Through this groundbreaking data center project, Etisalat is demonstrating that it understands how critical it is to build a technology infrastructure that addresses its customers’ growing and ever-changing demands – today and in the future.”
