Canon announces winners of #ComeAndSeeMyArabia Regional Photography Competition

Published Aug 31, 2015

Canon Middle East has announced the winners of #ComeAndSeeMyArabia regional photography competition. Marwan Nasr from Egypt won the first prize of a Canon EOS 760D camera for beautifully capturing the rising sun at the Mousa mountains in Saint Catherine, in Egypt. The second prize of a PIXMA PRO-10S printer was won by Johny Costa, from Kuwait, for creatively capturing a water reflection of Kuwait’s famed skyline.

A judging panel constituting of experts from Dubai's leading photography institute, Gulf Photo Plus (GPP) scrutinized nearly 1000 photo entries and unanimously zeroed in on Marwan and Johny as winners. According to GPP, their photographs were highly well composed, artistic and original, evoking the best interpretation of the theme ‘unique perspectives of my Arabian city’ which was a key criteria for choosing the winners of the competition.

The three-month long competition that was launched in May earlier this year, urged photography enthusiasts across Middle East and North, East & West Africa to explore their creative vision and capture the uniqueness of their cities in the form of photographs. These photographs were then to be submitted to the Canon ME Facebook page.

“Canon Middle East is committed to supporting photography in the region and ensuring it is accessible to all. The Canon #ComeAndSeeMyArabia photography competition saw nearly 1000 entries which is a great indication of the love for photography and the talent pool we have in the region. Canon will continue to create more of such platforms to nurture and recognise local talent and most importantly enable them to capture the world around them. Heartiest congratulations to the winners," said Hendrik Verbrugghe, Marketing Director, Canon Middle East.

“The photograph of the sunrise urges everyone to be a ‘dreamer’; to look beyond the horizons and explore one’s ambitions. The Canon competiton has been a great opportunity to explore the hidden locations in the Middle East,” said an ecstatic Marwan. Similar thoughts were echoed by Johny. "I have always been fascinated and inspired by the Kuwait cityscape. It was during dusk I saw the reflection in the water and had capture it from a perspective uncommon to human eyes. I have always been a Canon fan, particularly of the 5D and I am thrilled to be associated with Canon Middle East through such a unique competition," he said.
