Veeam® Software, the innovative provider of solutions that deliver Availability for the Modern Data Center™, today announced that Veeam Availability Suite v9 will include a new storage capability that dramatically reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO) of backup storage, lowers hardware costs and radically simplifies backup storage management in complex enterprise environments: the Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository™.
Managing backup storage is an enormous and expensive headache for the enterprise; in no small part because the exponential rate of data growth is outpacing the ability of legacy solutions to manage it efficiently and cost-effectively.
“Both production and protection storage volumes are growing around 40 percent year-over-year, while data protection budgets are growing roughly one-tenth of that,” according to Jason Buffington, Senior Data Protection Analyst at ESG. “The irony is that IT is being asked to increase their availability and agility to recover, but aren’t even able to maintain the status quo with legacy approaches to backup, in part due to storage requirements.”

The Veeam Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository overcomes these challenges by creating a single backup repository from a collection of almost any storage devices. The benefits are many, including:
Simplified backup storage management in complex enterprise environments: Enterprises can now increase backup storage capacity infinitely by simply adding almost any storage device to the single pool. By leveraging all available capacity intelligently, backup storage availability is dramatically improved: lack of free space on a particular storage device or even its temporary unavailability does not result in failed backups and missed RPOs.
Leverage existing storage resources: The Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository enables the enterprise to leverage its current storage investment to reduce costs. In fact, Veeam increases the effective capacity of existing storage by 30 or more percent by being able to leverage disk space that typically goes unused in a legacy backup storage environment, dramatically reducing the overall storage spend.
Increase performance: Using the backup files placement policy, full and incremental backup files can be assigned to separate storage devices for improved backup and recovery performance by leveraging I/O capacity of multiple devices with a single job. With this, the Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository enables lower RTPOs and reduced risk of data loss thereby empowering the enterprise to optimize its use of storage resources.
