Published Oct 28, 2015

Wileyfox is boldly entering the GCC smartphone market with its Swift and Storm, introducing CYANOGEN® Operating System 12.1 to the region, and providing the tech-savvy GCC market with limitless customization options, and enhanced privacy settings.

The newly established British smartphone manufacturer is providing early adopters with a unique opportunity to experience the latest in technology at unbeatable prices. Since their launch on Amazon in the UK last month, both the Wileyfox Swift and Storm, have been rated among the top five hot new releases, have been placed on the best sellers list, and have seen similar recognition with launches in other key markets across Europe and Russia. Following the success in Europe and Russia, Wileyfox has revealed that the Swift and Storm devices will be available across the GCC in November, exclusively online, through the region’s largest online retailer, Souq.com.

“Wileyfox recognizes that each smartphone user has unique requirements and usage preferences. Smartphone users are also storing valuable and sensitive data on their devices, increasing the need for high privacy levels. We aim to give users the freedom to create their own unique smartphone experience with advanced customization features, and enhanced privacy settings. Our powerful and reliable products are carefully crafted, featuring cutting-edge technology, to provide tech-savvy GCC users with a cost-effective platform to practice their creative technical skills,” said Nitin Sood, Managing Director, Wileyfox MEA.

“Our strategic online-exclusive offering is in line with regional trends toward e-commerce, and allows us to continuously deliver high-quality and leading innovation directly to our customers. With unsurpassed customer services, and unbeatable reliability, we quickly identified Souq.com as the ideal distribution partner in the region, sharing values that align with Wileyfox.”

Ronaldo Mouchawar, CEO & Co-Founder of Souq.com commented, “The smartphone sector in the Middle East is really opening up as new brands enter the market, proving that high quality does not necessarily mean a huge cost. With one of the highest mobile phone penetration rates, the Middle East is a ripe market for Wileyfox and we are proud to be partnering with such an innovative brand. We are experiencing an uplift in smartphone sales, particularly amongst the tech savvy younger generation, so we are confident of Wileyfox’s success in entering the market exclusively with Souq.com.”

Based on Android Lollipop 5.1, Cyanogen OS 12.1 is known for its revolutionary personalization features, intuitive interface, speed, improved battery life, enhanced apps, and leading security features. Cyanogen OS allows users to tailor their mobile device and content experiences through deep levels of customization, ranging from UI themes and shortcuts, to lock-screens and audio quality, and incorporates Qualcomm SecureMSM technology to offer some of the highest security and privacy settings in the industry. The PIN Scramble feature randomly changes the order of numbers on the screen to ensure that onlookers are not able to detect passwords through pattern memorization or screen smudges, while the Privacy Guard allows users to clearly select what information is shared with external parties, and Protected Apps stores select apps in hidden lockable folders.

“Cyanogen OS 12.1 delivers a unique user-focused Android experience, giving Wileyfox Swift and Storm users advanced customization and performance levels, as well as enhanced privacy settings,” said Vikram Natarajan, Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships and Distribution for Cyanogen. “Together with Wileyfox, we are bringing real differentiation that puts customers in control of their smartphone.”

Both devices are built with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processors, offering superior battery life, have dual-SIM functionality, and support 4G LTE connectivity. The Wileyfox Swift, selling at only AED 499, features a 5-inch HD Coring® Gorilla® Glass display, an impressive 13MP dual LED flash rear camera and 5MP secondary camera with a wide range of shooting features, the Quad-Core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 Chipset, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal ROM, expandable up to 32GB.
