R&M, the globally active Swiss developer and provider of cabling systems for high-end, powerful network infrastructures, has announced its participation at the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council MENA Conference which will be held in Muscat on the 10th and 11th of November, under the Patronage of H.E. R&M will deliver a presentation titled ‘Efficient FTTH Network Deployment’ that will highlight deployment methods that are be essential for network operators and organizations to realize the Sultanate’s ambitious plans to establish nationwide broadband connectivity by 2040.

The Omani government’s focus on the broadband sector has been indicated by its approval of the national broadband strategy in 2013 and its support for providing wider communication services at different governorates by 2020. It is estimated that around 90 per cent of the Governorate of Muscat and 35 per cent of the other governorates outside Muscat will be covered by optic fiber, satellites and wire communications by 2020 and every building and village across Oman will be connected to the national broadband infrastructure by 2040.

“The government of Oman will be making notable investments into the communications sector in the coming decade. The adoption of FTTH technology is key to widespread availability of high-speed internet services. In turn, better communication services and networking solutions are fundamental to the progress of a nation and the development of a smart and enabled workforce,” said Shibu Vahid, Head of Technical Operations, R&M Middle East, Turkey and Africa at R&M.

At the event, the company will demonstrate its extensive FTTH cabling solutions portfolio including ‘R&Mfoxs’, Street Cabinets, Splice Closures, and Venus Boxes. R&Mfoxs, a fiber optic cross connection system for public fiber optic networks, covers all levels of modern broadband infrastructures from data centers and main distributors to the feeder, drop and access area and beyond to FO outlets. The solution is based on SCM, the single circuit management system, developed by R&M and features easy-to-operate splice trays for managing the individual fibers and subscribers.

The company’s presentation will be delivered by Martin Kellenberger, Head of Consultancy at R&M AG.
