SANS Dubai 2016 to Focus On Intrusion Detection and IT Security Essentials

Published Dec 1, 2015

SANS Dubai returns to the Gulf region in January 2016 offering students the opportunity to take two popular SANS courses, both with an associated GIAC certification.

The Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Resort will host SANS training courses SEC503: Intrusion Detection In-Depth, led by SANS Instructor Jess Garcia from 9th to 14th January and ICS410: ICS/SCADA Security Essentials led by SANS Instructor Eric Cornelius from 10th to 14th January.

SEC503: Intrusion Detection In-Depth delivers the technical knowledge, insight, and hands-on training needed to defend networks with confidence. The 6 day course includes underlying theory of TCP/IP and the most used application protocols, such as HTTP, to allow students to intelligently examine network traffic for signs of an intrusion. The sessions include plenty of practice learning to configure and master different open-source tools like tcpdump, Wireshark, Snort, Bro, and many more.

Course instructor Jess Garcia is an internationally recognised Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity expert, having led the response and forensic investigation of some of the world's biggest incidents in recent times. With nearly 20 years in the field, Jess has worked on a myriad of highly sensitive projects with top global customers in sectors such as finance and insurance, corporate, media, health, communications, law and government including the Spanish Space Agency, where he collaborated as a security advisor with the European Space Agency, NASA, and other international organisations.

ICS410: ICS/SCADA Security Essentials aims to equip security professionals and control system engineers with the cybersecurity skills they need to defend national critical infrastructure. The course provides a foundational set of standardised skills and knowledge for industrial cybersecurity professionals and is designed to ensure that the workforce involved in supporting and defending industrial control systems is trained to keep the operational environment safe, secure, and resilient against current and emerging cyber threats.

Course instructor Eric Cornelius is Director of Critical Infrastructure and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) at Cylance, Inc. where he is responsible for thought leadership, architecture, and consulting implementations. Eric brings a wealth of ICS knowledge and his leadership keeps organisations safe, secure, and resilient against advanced attackers. Previously, Eric served as the Deputy Director and Chief Technical Analyst for the Control Systems Security Program at the US Department of Homeland Security.
