Published Dec 13, 2015

With Egypt’s ICT jobs set to grow 16-fold by 2020, German University in Cairo students will be equipped to be at the forefront of the Digital Economy, thanks to a SAP partnership announced today in the build-up to Cairo ICT 2015.

Supporting Millennials in the Digital Economy, the German University in Cairo is the 10th institution to adapt SAP’s Dual Study Program, an initiative by the SAP Training and Development Institute.

University students from German University in Cairo will have the opportunity to become certified SAP Associate Consultants, by completing a curriculum that combines university theoretical studies with SAP certification during academic years. In addition, the participating students will gain work experience from mandatory internships within the SAP ecosystem.

The partnership is in line with the university’s mission of producing graduates who can innovate and compete in the global economy, and furthers the university’s vision of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Germany.

Amr Ghoneim, Managing Director, SAP North Africa and Levant and Eng. Essam Hamouda, Secretary General (University Council) and member in the board of trustees, German University in Cairo signed the partnership.

“The Dual Study Program is a great opportunity for our Business Informatics students to complete the right skillset required by the labor market before they graduate. Aligning educational objectives with a global player from Germany will provide additional student internship opportunities in Germany or here in the region, and it will further enhance the practice-orientation of our study programs on campus,” said Prof. Dr. Ralf Klischewski, attending the signing ceremony as the Dean of the GUC Faculty of Management Technology.

Demonstrating the benefits of SAP’s Dual Study Program, Misbah Uddin recently graduated from the program in the UAE, and now works as an SAP Business Intelligence Consultant at Soltius Middle East.

“SAP’s Dual Study Program helps graduates and soon-to-be graduates to acquire experience and training that enables them for a future with SAP, their clients, and their partners. Experiences like these not only enhance technical aptitude of an individual, but also foster leadership qualities to produce better leaders for tomorrow,” said Misbah Uddin.

Egypt aims to increase the number of ICT-related jobs from 50,000 in 2013-2014 to 800,000 in 2019-2020, when ICT is expected to contribute EGP 150 billion (US$ 19.2 billion) to the national GDP, according to a report by the Egypt Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Supporting Egypt’s Digital Economy, at Cairo ICT 2015, SAP will showcase the latest innovations in Future Cities, the Digital Boardroom, and connected football with SAP Sports One. SAP is exhibiting in Hall 2 in the Cairo International Conference Center during Cairo ICT 2015, which runs from 13-16 December 2015.
