Egypt’s ICT Sector Set to Triple GDP Contribution to Nearly EGP 200 Billion by 2021

Smart Cities, Ports, and Sports are Egypt’s three key verticals for digital transformation to support economic and job growth over the next six years, SAP announced today at Cairo ICT 2015.
The Egyptian government plans to triple ICT’s GDP contribution from EGP 65 billion (USD 8 billion) in FY 2014-2015 to EGP 195 billion (USD 25 billion) in FY 2020-2021, according to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. ICT supports more than 6,500 companies and nearly 1 million jobs in Egypt.
“In Egypt, public-private partnerships that combine government strategies with private sector expertise are urgently needed to drive digital transformation in Smart Cities, Ports, and Sports to drive growth and jobs in the Digital Economy,” said Amr Ghoneim, Managing Director, SAP North Africa and Levant.
On its stand, SAP will demonstrate the latest enterprise software innovations that run on the real-time SAP HANA platform, including SAP Future Cities, the SAP Networked Logistics Hub, SAP SportsOne for sports and entertainment, the SAP Digital Boardroom, and cloud and business analytics solutions.
As Egypt’s cities face rapidly-evolving economic, social, and environmental pressures, Big Data insights can enhance quality of life for citizens, businesses, and tourists.
Worldwide, more than 4,500 cities use the SAP Future Cities solution to manage traffic, enhance public safety, prepare for climate change, and provide personalized tourist itineraries.
With the New Suez Canal recently opening, connected ports solutions can automate processes and provide real-time visibility to optimize port traffic productivity, enhance traffic, and reduce the environmental impact.
Using SAP solutions, the Hamburg Port Authority has saved 5,000 hours in truck time each day, and supports the port’s expansion to 18 million containers by 2025.
Egyptians are passionate about football, to horse racing, and basketball, and real-time Big Data insights on player fitness, lineup performance, and stadium concessions can enhance the player, coach, fan, and media experience.
A range of sports organizations use SAP solutions – including the German National Football Team to win 2014 World Cup Brazil, City Football Group, FC Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, the NBA, and the CHIO Aachen equestrian festival.
