Prominent Visitor at Reichle & De-Massari AG in Wetzikon

Published May 8, 2009
The Singapore Minister of Finance Shanmugaratnam Tharman visited Reichle & De-Massari AG (R&M) on his official trip to Switzerland. The Wetzikon-based cabling spe-cialist conducts business worldwide and operates a supply chain hub in Singapore. After meeting with Swiss Federal Council President Hans-Rudolf Merz, the prominent guest was accompanied on his visit to R&M by Singapore’s ambassador to Switzer-land, Michael Hwang, and other delegates from the Singapore Ministry of Finance and the Economic Development Board (EDB).

Swiss cabling specialist R&M had the honor of welcoming Shanmugaratnam Tharman to its facility in Wetzikon on Thursday afternoon. The finance minister was accompanied by Singa-pore’s ambassador to Switzerland and other delegates from the Ministry of Finance in Singa-pore. The delegation toured the production facilities for cabling components and fiber optic systems. Products from R&M are used in top-quality communication networks. The meeting with the minister came about because R&M established economic ties with Singapore in the summer of 2008 by opening a supply chain hub there.

Following the production tour, company owners Martin and Peter Reichle and Chairman of the R&M Board of Directors Hans Hess explained the R&M growth strategy involving inten-sive internationalization. The delegation from Singapore reported on its economic develop-ment efforts aimed at actively supporting international companies in the current difficult cli-mate.

The R&M management decided on Singapore as a business location in 2007. Its main moti-vations were the central geographic location of Singapore and its excellent logistical connec-tions to the international transportation network as well as its clearly laid out legal system and the pro-Western attitudes of the Singaporeans. This opening marks yet another step for R&M in its push for global growth. The on-site presence allows R&M to be closer and more respon-sive to customers and makes for more efficient deliveries.

R&M has a global quality assurance program for maintaining its high quality standards. Core and high-tech products continue to be manufactured in Switzerland. Products and solutions specifically for the Asian market are developed and manufactured in Singapore.
