Outlining the future of telecommunication in the region, Etisalat presented a vast array of advanced business and consumer communication solutions through the launch and demonstration of innovative products and services and high-level partnerships, all focused on providing holistic solutions that enhance its customers’ experience at all levels.
Gitex 2009 witnessed the launch of the Middle East’s fastest broadband internet for residential customers in the UAE through Etisalat’s new 30MBps package. Based on the Fibre to the Home (FTTH) technology, the new package available from October 1st will significantly boost the current speed of Internet, providing unmatched experience and minimal latency to the customers, while encouraging newer avenues for internet surfing like online gaming, audio and video streaming.
An exciting launch at Gitex also included Etisalat first self-branded mobile device. Etisalat 211 FM is an affordable mobile phone offered by Etisalat for its price-conscious customers, who can now purchase this device bundled for as less as AED 265. Etisalat has also bundled this device with a Wasel SIM card along with AED 165 of free airtime credit for international calls, over a period of 3 months.
Moreover, during Gitex, the much required Yellow Pages application was launched by Etisalat especially for its iPhone 3G users in the UAE. Etisalat’s Yellow Pages for iPhone is the first application of its kind within the GCC offering rich value-added features, over and above the standard search services.
To expand customer’s reach, Etisalat also announced the trial of advanced Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, popularly known as the latest step toward the 4th generation (4G) of radio technologies designed to increase the capacity and speed of mobile networks. This pilot project brings the first LTE application in the Middle East. Through LTE, Etisalat will be able to provide downlink speed of 140Mbps and 50Mbps uplink speed, reaching yet another technological milestone.
Amongst other demonstrations in this year’s Gitex exhibition, Etisalat showcased a new range of safety products and the Etisalat Safety Service that will be available for purchase later on in the year. This new service is the integration of its branded mobile telephony with the very latest GPS satellite tracking technology. Kids Phone for the family safety market serves as the first product to be released amongst the product range that includes safety solutions to increase personal security and to improve business management.

Partnerships that came to life at the Gitex 2009 included Etisalat acquiring a 16.6% stake in SoftAtHome, a software provider of home operating platforms that helps service providers deliver convergent applications for the Digital Home. The acquisition will enable Etisalat to develop and provide a holistic digital home experience to its customers, thereby, bringing about a paradigm shift in the way technology is consumed today.
