Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation and joint efforts that support shared strategic goals related to knowledge dissemination, scientific research, and training. The MoU was signed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA and Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of HBMSU. A number of officials from both sides were present. The MoU supports DEWA’s commitment to enhancing its partnership with HBMSU, and coordinates efforts to achieve organisational, scientific, and career growth to improve performance. This is achieved through training and scientific programmes provided by HBMSU, including staff training and development.
“We are pleased to cooperate with Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University to support the National Innovation Strategy launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The MoU is in line with our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. DEWA is today on a par with the largest international utilities thanks to its excellence in efficiency, reliability, and availability. This has been achieved through sound planning and implementation of innovative projects and solutions. This MoU will further strengthen our cooperation in exchanging knowledge and related studies. It also enhances our cooperation in scientific research, applied studies, and developing post-graduate programmes in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and environmental sciences,” said Al Tayer.
“The training and scientific programmes provided by Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University will contribute to our efforts to promote the capabilities of our staff. These programmes are based on smart, innovative, and flexible methodologies that are different from the traditional ways of teaching. This ensures that staff keep pace with the rapid developments spurred by the digital era. We will exchange information, studies, and publications, in line with our efforts to enrich knowledge in the scientific and electronic fields to support Dubai Government’s vision to become a smart government,” added Al Tayer.
Al Tayer commended HBMSU for its pioneering role in smart education, for its vital role in promoting a culture of innovation and excellence in education and research, and for providing the best experiences and practices to Arab and international universities.
“We are delighted to lay a solid foundation for strengthening our existing partnership with DEWA and opening new channels of cooperation in the field of training, learning and innovation. The new MoU reflects the government sector’s trust in HBMSU’s role as a leader in driving innovation and creativity in smart learning and instilling a culture of quality in education and scientific research. We are committed to providing the best means to enrich and deepen knowledge as well as enhance creative skills and human resources in DEWA. We will also intensify our efforts to ensure that DEWA has the necessary tools to keep up with the requirements of the 21st century and strengthen its position as a leading utility in providing world-class water and electricity services,” said Al Awar
“The signing of the training contract comes in line with our commitment to ensure the optimal investment in human resources, disseminate modern knowledge, and instill a culture of innovation, in line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of the University, to further strengthen HBMSU’s contribution to efforts to make Dubai a hub for global innovation. The new training programmes are of great importance as they provide a unique opportunity for DEWA’s employees to gain the best strategic skills in leadership, management, and effective communication, which in turn will positively impact government performance and the ability to achieve the happiness of customers and the well-being of society,” added Al Awar.
The MoU aims to intensify joint efforts to enhance the creative skills of young people and motivate them to innovate. This supports the national efforts to achieve the goals of the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world. The two sides agreed to provide eight scholarships in environmental management, as well as graduate programmes in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and environmental sciences. This will significantly support sustainability in the UAE.
The MoU includes field training and joint educational programmes in quality management, HR management, and online education. The two sides will also cooperate in scientific research and applied studies.
To take their strategic partnership to the highest level of excellence, both parties signed a contract under which HBMSU will offer 9 training programmes for DEWA in Financial Management, Strategic Management, Innovation and Creativity in Business, Leadership, Change Management, and Effective Communication Skills. In the first phase, 60 DEWA staff will join a Professional Diploma programme in Business Innovation Management, and Strategic Management and Leadership. Both programmes provide important opportunities for DEWA staff to get key skills, competencies, and experiences necessary for sound decision making. The programmes also prepare them to effectively meet challenges and achieve excellence in innovation, leadership, creativity and strategic management, which are vital for government excellence pursued by wise leadership of the UAE.
The MoU involves organising seminars, meetings, interactive workshops, and conducting benchmarking studies. The two sides will implement quality initiatives and development projects to promote the social role of both HBMSU and DEWA according to their approved policies and methodologies.
