A10 Networks Launches World’s Most Powerful DDoS Protection Solution to Stop Multi-Vector DDoS Disruption

Published Oct 13, 2016

A10 Networks, a leader in application networking and security, today introduced A10 Thunder 14045 TPS, the fastest appliance on the market, that provides highest DDoS attack mitigation for Service Providers, Web 2.0 and Cloud Providers - 300 Gbps of mitigation throughput capacity (or 2.4 terabits per second in a cluster). This launch is part of A10 Networks’ expanded family of Thunder TPS (Threat Protection System) high-performance solutions which includes entry-level virtual and hardware appliance form factors, all with easy integration into existing networks, including open source systems, for faster protection, plus the option to scale in cloud environments.

DDoS attacks are in such widespread use that it’s practically a household term. The motives for why threat actors or criminal organizations leverage DDoS attacks to take down enterprises, online retailers, services providers, gaming networks or government services vary. The only concrete fact is that they are only growing in number, size, duration and sophistication.

According to the Verisign DDoS Trends Report for the second quarter of 2016, the number of DDoS attacks increased by 75 percent year over year. Akamai’s State of the Internet study found even larger growth, stating that the first quarter for 2016 witnessed a 125 percent year-over-year increase in total DDoS attacks. According to a recent report by A10 Networks with IDG Connect, the average company suffers 15 DDoS attacks per year, with average attacks causing at least 17 hours of effective downtime, including slowdowns, denied customer access or crashes. Attacks are also getting harder to defend, with average peak bandwidths of 30 to 40 gigabits per second (Gbps) and many exceeding that mark.

There is an undeniable increasing trend in DDoS attacks in terms of frequency, size and complexity. Likewise, organizations are increasingly dependent on the availability of their services, and on their ability to connect to the Internet. Downtime results in immediate revenue loss, brand damage and additional employee labor for mitigation. To easily integrate into various networking architectures, a flexible, vendor-neutral DDoS mitigation solution is required. A10 Networks Thunder TPS provides agile, efficient and network-wide protection against the full spectrum of DDoS attacks. This includes the challenging multi-vector attacks that use a combination of high-rate volumetric or network protocol attacks and more sophisticated application attacks.

“It’s all about the customer,” said Raj Jalan, CTO of A10 Networks. “We’re helping service providers and enterprises fight back against the rising DDoS onslaught so they can be proactive, not reactive. True multi-vector, always-on protection helps them ensure uptime, exceed operational readiness and productivity, and avoid brand damage due to costly outages.”

All of the announced products are available now.

Easy integration with third-party commercial and open-source systems. It includes an open SDK and RESTful API for seamless integrations, as well as an open source plugin for FastNetMon.
Other TPS partners include Big Switch Networks, Deepfield, FlowTraq, GenieNRM and Kentik.
“In the last few weeks major DDoS attacks have been sweeping the news headlines, as these attacks are becoming more persistent and frequent,” said Dr. Vincent Berk, co-founder and CEO at FlowTraq. “Thunder TPS offers the right level of detection and mitigation to help our customers provide a first line of defense for their network infrastructures.”

“As DDoS attacks increase in quantity, complexity and in the severity of damage they inflict, our mutual enterprise customers with A10 Networks need all the help they can get,” said Doug Marlin, vice president, Independent Technology Group. “Just because they’re not experiencing crashes, doesn’t mean their customers aren’t running into delays or blocked access. The flexibility, scalability and integration with different architectures that Thunder TPS offers is a clear benefit to our customers.”
