R&M to Launch New SYNO Dome Closure Cabling Solution at FTTH Council MENA

R&M, the global Swiss developer and provider of cabling systems for high-quality network infrastructures, has developed a new modular outdoor closure for fiber optic networks. For a sixth consecutive year, the company is sponsoring and participating at the FTTH Council MENA, taking place at the Regency Hotel in Kuwait from 7 to 9 November 2016, and will introduce its SYNO dome closure to the Middle East market at this event.
R&M works closely with leading telecom operators in Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia and UAE and believes the SYNO dome closure will be a vital component in their Fiber to the Home (FTTH) projects. “The FTTH Council MENA event is well attended by key players in the regional FTTH community. This edition, under the theme ‘FTTH, The Evolution to the Digital Society’ will highlight the benefits of the FTTH deployment for operators, governments and end-users. This makes it the ideal platform for us to launch our new innovative solution. We want to give attendees a first-hand experience of the SYNO dome closure as this will no doubt result in it being deployed widely in the region,” explained Sandrine Prat, Marketing & Communication Manager and R&M Middle East, Turkey & Africa.
At the event, R&M’s Head of Technical Operations in the Middle East, Turkey & Africa, Shibu Vahid, will speak about “FTTH solutions and trends for last mile and in-home installation for successful NGN deployment.”
Development of the new SYNO dome closure follows many years of experience gathered by the R&M R&D team in Switzerland and its SYNO gel technology is an innovation in mechanical cold sealing. When the cable entry is sealed in the closure, gel surrounds each cable, preventing dust and moisture from getting in. Because of this, fluctuating temperatures, mechanical loads, or water pressure cannot damage the dome-end splice in any way.
R&M will offer three models of the solution, the largest of which can hold up to 1,152 fibers and splices. The system also guarantees a bending radius of 40 mm, regardless of packing density, which is gentle on fibers. Cables up to 28 mm and micro ducts up to 14 mm in diameter fit in the kits, making the dome closure suited to virtually any application including distribution, branch, and cable joint closure.
With the new SYNO dome closure, the cable entries can be opened, closed, changed, and retrofitted in just a few simple steps. The cable bays and individual cables remain freely accessible, meaning that the dome closure can be modified or fitted with additional fiber optic cables even during network operations.
“The solution will revolutionize the assembly process by eliminating the laborious task of threading fiber optic cables through the closure bottom plate. It dispenses with time-consuming sealing using shrink tubes by instead sealing the splice closure with integrated blocks made by our own SYNO gel seal,” said Shibu Vahid.
