Veeam and VCSP Partners to Give Away $200 Million in Cloud Backup and DRaaS Services

Published Feb 16, 2017

Veeam® Software, the innovative provider of solutions that deliver Availability for the Always-On Enterprise™, today announced a new initative in partnership with its Veeam Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) partners that will enable current customers, using Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup & Replication, or Veeam Backup Essentials, to extend their ‘availability’ strategy to the cloud at no cost.

Veeam is used by more than 230,000 organizations around the world to protect more than 12.5 million virtual machines (VMs). Many of these organizations are looking to extend their on-premises deployments of Veeam to the cloud. Veeam is giving away up to $200 million through an exclusive Veeam FREE Cloud Services program. Effective immediately, every customer using Veeam for on-premises backup and recovery is now eligible for up to $1,000 in free cloud backup and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) from Veeam and its VCSP partners.

Veeam Cloud Connect enables VCSP partners to offer cloud-based disaster recovery and offsite backup. Today, many customers want to utilize the cloud for backup and disaster recovery (BDR), and others want to offload BDR to a service provider all together. Veeam’s strategy is to partner with cloud and service providers, who are the true experts in delivering cloud and managed services. Therefore, it doesn’t offer its own cloud or managed services, but rather enables VCSP partners to do so.

DRaaS continues to gain momentum due to more affordable prices and enhanced functionality to meet availability and compliance requirements. Gartner estimates the DRaaS market will nearly triple within the next two years, to a revenue point of $3.4 billion by 2019.[1] In this space Veeam holds a big advantage over competition. Many of the products in the market today offer a DRaaS solution in addition to, or separate from, an overall data protection strategy, often pulling the focus of IT away from their current datacenter investments and momentum. These solutions add an additional layer of management complexity, and often leave businesses uncertain that they can actually recover if something goes terribly wrong. Veeam enables DRaaS as part of a comprehensive availability strategy, embracing virtualization and storage investments in the datacenter and extending them through the hybrid cloud. Affordable and efficient image-based virtual machine (VM) replication delivers true cloud-based disaster recovery for all applications (RTPOs of less than 15 minutes).

The Veeam customer base for DRaaS is huge and growing strong. This represents a big opportunity for service providers, and Veeam Cloud Connect makes it easy to acquire new customers, build recurring revenue and dive into the rapidly-growing cloud services and DRaaS market.

Customers are also realizing the importance of a cloud backup strategy. The 3-2-1 rule states that organizations need to keep three copies of your data, stored on two types of media, with one copy being off site. Getting backups off site can be challenging due to limited bandwidth, exploding data volumes and a lack of resources required to build or maintain a true offsite backup repository. With Veeam Cloud Connect, companies can master the 3-2-1 rule without dumping money and resources into a second site or adding bandwidth—just leverage cloud backup repository services from a VCSP partner. This again represents a big opportunity for VCSPs.

“Organizations across the globe are increasiblgy adopting cloud platforms for IT and business solutions, and they need an Availability platform that is scalable, reliable, secure and adaptable enough to leverage multi-cloud infrastructures,” said Paul Mattes, Vice President of Veeam’s Global Cloud Group. “We, along with our partners, recognize this opportunity and are fully committing to major investments supporting our partners and end-users, and further delivering on our cloud vision and strategy.”

In addition to helping customers embrace the benfits of DRaaS and Cloud Backup, the Veeam FREE Cloud Services program is designed to help traditional resellers expand in the midst of a cloud-based services market shift. Veeam is connecting resellers with VCSP partners, helping them establish cloud services businesses that generate growing monthly recurring revenue streams.

"Veeam continues to develop cutting-edge cloud integrations for its customers," says Ian McClarty, President of phoenixNAP. "The launch of the Veeam FREE Cloud Services program is an exciting step towards always-on availability for the masses. We are thrilled that Veeam is bringing such a compelling offer to each and every one of its customers to help their users stay available 24.7.365."

This limited time offer is available for all Veeam Availability Suite™, Veeam Backup & Replication™ and Veeam Backup Essentials™ end-user customers with active Veeam maintenance contracts. The Veeam FREE Cloud Services program will initially launch in North America, with plans to expand into EMEA, LATAM and ANZ regions in the next few months.
