Interview With PolyVision's Lahcen Tazeroualti

Published Nov 4, 2012

Q. What is Splashtop for ēno?

Simply put, Splashtop for ēno is an application (app), which turns an iPad into a mobile tool to control the eno interactive whiteboard, it is one of our most recent developments and feedback from teachers is positive on the classroom benefits. Teachers can roam the room, collaborate with students and teach lessons with just their iPad. Teachers, or students if given the ipad, can also annotate, jot down ideas and use all their favourite desktop apps.

Q. Why is it important to the education sector?

Students have changed and the environment in which they learn needs to accommodate their new way of learning. Tools introduced for education purposes should be mindful of students, their needs and the educators who use them. The future of education is one that uses space, pedagogy and technology to create real engagement between students and educators. The traditional model of a teacher standing at the front of a classroom is no longer the vision for the future. Rather, education has shifted toward a more experiential or heuristic model in which students engage more with one another, lessons are collaborative, and technology is more integrated.

Splashtop for eno is one solution from PolyVision that can help support this insight.

Q. What are some of the latest and exciting (latest technologies) trends emerging in the education sector?

I believe one of the biggest technology trends we are witnessing is that educators are becoming more willing to allow students to integrate student owned devices such as smart phones into lessons. Students today are born into the digital age, they are dreamers and thinkers. They are entering the class with a heightened digital acumen and lowered attention span, while simultaneously teachers feel pressure to deliver positive test scores, increase collaboration, and drive engagement. These challenges are encouraging educators to rethink their approach and be more open to new technology.

Q. Why did you decide to attend Gitex in Dubai this year?

GITEX is the rendezvous of ICT and for us, the perfect platform to share our knowledge and expertise and demonstrate the unrivalled quality of our solutions. It also allowed us to gain valuable insight on emerging industry trends from over 80 per cent of the top ICT brands worldwide. The biggest advantage the show has though is its ability to attract a wide mix of audience from all across the region, this is what is key for us.

Q. Do you see any big opportunities for growth in the Middle East markets in 2012? Do you have any plans to infiltrate the Middle East? If so, what are they?

The Middle East is a part of the world that is a focus region for our company and our ongoing strategy. We realize that the key to integrate technology into the classroom environment is making it simple to use and infuse into the learning environment. Mobile devices are one such technology that helps meet the learning needs of students and is available and affordable for many countries to implement. Our plans are to continue providing key solutions that lead to more engaged, active learning spaces and meet these ever changing needs.

Q. How can regional customers benefit from PolyVision’s solutions?

One of our greatest assets is that our solutions are open for any content, device and material required for lessons. Teachers can choose to use our software or someone else’s and our interactive technology works just as well. Teachers can teach the way that is best for them and their students and do not need to learn a new software just to use our interactive whiteboard or visualizer. PolyVision products are purposely designed to be simple, for some educators in the region who are just starting to integrate technology into their lesson delivery this is very beneficial.
