Syria: The BBC is demanding an apology from two Syrian TV stations for their attacks on the corporation's integrity, the Guardian has reported. Al Dunya and Al Ikhbaria TV stations have falsely accused the BBC of inciting sectarianism and fabricating stories, BBC foreign editor, Jon Williams said.

Syria: Bemo Saudi Fransi Finance (BSFF), the investment arm of Banque Bemo Saudi Fransi (BBSF), maintained the leading market share amongst financial intermediaries working in the Damascus Securities Exchange (DSE) executing 24.7% of trading in 2011. Since the launch of the DSE in March 2009, BSFF has been on the forefront leading other financial intermediaries in volumes and values traded.

Syria: Turkey has said Syria would lose more than $100m a year in transport revenues as Ankara finds alternative routes to export goods to the Middle East and Gulf, Reuters has reported. Turkey is still trading with its neighbour but has sought new trade routes to the Middle East since relations with Damascus worsened. "It will be Syria who loses in this process of introducing alternative trade routes," the Turkish economy ministry said, adding it had finalised talks to start exporting goods to Egypt via sea in January and from there overland to the Gulf.

Syria: Mahdi Sajjad, president of UK-based Gulfsands has said sanctions on Syria's oil sector are squeezing the country in the short term, but production and exports are likely to resume once Syrian oil companies find new Asian partners to buy their oil, Reuters has reported. "If I could find an angle to sue the British government and the European Union, I would do it. Sanctions do not work -- look at Iran, look at Iraq," Sajjad said. Gulfsands, which sources over 90% of its output from Syria, has shut down production there along with oil major Royal Dutch Shell and Canada's Suncor Energy due to the latest set of EU sanctions.
